so My mare wears a green guard muzzle with fly mask over the top. Worn for years, never a problem, happily accepted.
it has the additional chin strap.
these past couple of weeks it has been off in the field twice a day ( every time I visit).
all intact. No straps undone. Fly mask still on ( with ears)
surely she can’t be getting it off herself and managing to leave fly mask on?
others think someone is climbing in field to remove but I can’t see someone really doing that every day ?
had anyone got any ideas please

Mine has managed to do exactly that - sometimes she's dislodged an ear from the flymask but otherwise it's still on her

I was poo picking once when she did it (& then couldn't catch her to put it back on!). She rolled and rubbed her head on the ground so it's obviously a practised manoeuvre

& No, I've never quite worked out how either.

Clearly she's discovered a way to break through your seemingly pony-proof plan! Probably feels very clever with herself.
They're more clever than they let on... mine has got out of rugs before that have had all the buckles done up...

the flymask is done up tight so I am shocked that this is achievable ! But I did suspect it wasn’t walkers removing it as it’s far to open and likely to be caught. not enough mane unfortunately , any other ideas ?

An old leg strap from a rug round the neck, slip it through the headband and secure with a plastic clip - just in case! Check it won't slide over her ears when she puts her head down to graze.
Have you got another horse who is helping to remove it? I have seen this happen!

I have that additional strap already and it’s still coming off and everyone thinks I’m losing the plot as they say it’s impossible to get it all off without disturbing the fly mask, they have even accused me of sneaking up And removing it ! The fly mask is literally not disturbed at all

Hmmm can you set up a wildlife camera to cover the field or is the area too big? Having said that, my friend has all but given up with grazing masks. Her gelding can remove and trash anything. My lad would tolerate a Tough 1 Easy Breathe, but now his teeth are not good enough to graze through a mask. You have my sympathy.

I had exactly the same thought when I went muzzle hunting but she still had her mask on. A few times though I've found the mask partially dislodged so I think she must just get the right angle to take muzzle off and ears go back in mask.

I always knew when others were taking it off (they were next to an Airbnb once) because it was all in a tidy pile not far from the fence. If she removes it I usually have to go on an exploration
