I am a bad mummy and have got one for my ever enlarging horse, she is looking like the world has come to an end and is making me feel so guilty

Does anybody know how tight/loose it is and how much or a gap I should leave between her nose end and the muzzle?
I bought it as new off Ebay but it has come without instructions.
Any help/comments would be appreciated.

I can't remember exactly how far they say it should be from the muzzle, but I know it's pretty close - a centimetre rings a bell? I was too soft on my mare when she first had hers on and I fitted it too loose... the result was a very large sore where it had rubbed and my horse was eating out of the side of it! I have it perfect now, it looks too snug when I put it on but that's only because Maiden sulks for a while first; once she puts her head down it loosens off and it very rarely rubs (much less than her bucket muzzle does anyway)

I fit mine snugly to her lips as found if looser, she got her nose out the side, so a) it didn't work and b) it rubbed her raw.

I use a shires one now and found the greenguard one wasn't restricting her grazing enough.

Its about one centimetere. I put my boys a bit looser so that he can put his head down, push it to one side, grab a mouthful of grass and then lift his head to eat it. He doesn't look quite so sorry for himself then but he can't go along in hoover mode either.
