Horsey makeup advice needed. I've never owned a grey before, and I've never shown in winter before. I was never into the whole makeup thing as a slick of baby oil always did the trick on darker ones with a summer coat.

Now I have a grey and a winter coat to deal with. I know he's not show quality by any stretch of the imagination, its a charity show which is why I'm going. I still want him to look his best. Baby oil won't work as he's furry around the eyes. Any tips? I'm thinking smokey grey eyeshadow? Any tips on what to do? I won't be clipping his whole face as he lives out.

its also my first photo upload attempt...

Oh what a love! Isn't he cute enough without any makeup?!

(I don't actually know any tips I'm afraid, not something I've done before!)

Make up will look just like make up, it will not enhance him or add anything to his turnout, unless used to cover a blemish, I would just tidy him up, trim what you can to show off his features and give him a really good clean up, a wipe over with a cloth and a touch of baby oil to give a sheen will be all he needs.

Oh that is the cutest little thing! I agree with bepositive - I've seen a few 'made-up' horses at shows this year, and it is quite obvious. And actually quite detracting from the animal's natural beauty. neat and tidy is enough.

My pony looks a bit similar and I find that the supreme products clear highlighter gel works very well, you can also use it to neaten the roots of the mane

I dont like the black makeup as if they rub themselves or even worse rub their head against you the black gets everywhere

Perhaps if you want to use black make up mix a little with baby oil to lessen the blackness a bit

I apply products with a triangular make up sponge

Thanks for the replies everyone. It's a couple of weeks until the show so I might experiment for the next week, if it looks horrible I'll go nude to the show (not actually me of course)

And thanks for the compliments too, he's a loveable brat
