Grey pony muck stains NIGHTMARE!

My grey pony lies absolutely flat out in his deep straw bed..looks dead...has the wost muck stains I have ever seen. Other than rugging him to avoid the problem, have you any tips/products that work for speedy removal? PLEASE.
 
My cob is exactly the same! She seems to rather lay on the part of the stable where shes crapped than on the clean side, thankfully shes out 24/7 at the moment but it doesn't stop her getting covered in mud! I just had to brush and brush and brush until i gave up and faced the fact that my pony would have to look like a neglected one. I personally suggest you do a thorough brushing and then use chalk to fade out the marks? Good luck :)
 
Coat conditioner helps to deter the stains slightly & for scrubbing/spot washing I've found those little shower scrunchies really good! Good luck - I feel your pain having a coloured who only smears crap on her white bits!
 
Try Cowboy magic green stain remover - there is a shampoo and a spray. Then a baby wipe over a magic brush for when you're out at a show somewhere. I've an appaloosa who has THE most disgusting stable habits. I routinely find his eye glued together where he has rubbed his head in his own poo. I think he has a secret desire to be a bay and is trying to ink in between the spots! Stable stains can dye the hair yellow after a while you you have to get them off every day. Coat conditioner and show sheen type stuff does help keep the stains from sticking too badly - but they also interfere with the horse's ability to sweat so personally I'm not keen on those. But I know others who swear by them.
 
IMHO, the only way to remove stable stains is to keep on top of them by spot washing . . . yes, stain removers plus baby wipes help, but I have found that warm water, a sponge, and some Fairy liquid does just as well. Oh, and keep washing that tail . . . let it get yellow at your peril - you won't ever get it clean.

Poor old Kal must really welcome the cooler weather because it means he is rugged up enough that stable stains are restricted to legs . . . so less "dabbing" by his slightly OCD owner.

Greys are stunning when they are clean - but they are a nightmare to keep that way . . . I much prefer mud to poo stains . . .

I LOVE bays....I said 'no mares, and no greys'...but he came to me and this seems to be his only 'fault'.... I am torn between OCD and rugging (which I hate unless it's for warmth) but we do look a bit scruffy in an immaculate yard, where even the chickens are tidy!

OMG....yours is worse than mine!!! I love the eye...he/she does look quite pleased with him/herself..'going for full camouflage but not quite achieving it'.
 
I use stain master on my coloured. I spray it on and with a soft bristly brush work it in well, leave it while I do something else then rub it off with a wet sponge, dry it off with a towel and then rub in chalk and leave to dry then brush off. it works brilliantly (literally)
 
I don't get too OCD about it but I do recommend spot cleaning with a bucket of warm water and a dash of Diamond White horse shampoo and then rinsed off with the hose. The more you keep on top of it the better and easier it is and as another poster has said keep cleaning that tail.

It's not often my horse is in his stable without a rug so he normally looks a bit more presentable, lol :)

Since the foals did the rounds eating everyone's tails, we haven't been bothered about stains as we haven't shown. But I have wondered if soaking in dilute warm biological washing powder is likely to be harmful? It works a treat on stained coffee cups!
