I want one and there’s none for sale, they must be like hen’s teeth! I know someone on here has one, maybe EKW? Any suggestions of breeders or where I can find one? Preferably full up, 4+ anything else is negotiable 😝

I have a proper 42" grey gelding! He is Riccalton breeding but they are now bred in Denmark.

Good, big greys these days come from the Zennor and Sharptor studs in Devon. It's shetland heaven down there! Every shape, colour and size you could imagine! It will take you pretty much all day to look round all their ponies!

Zennor are based on old Southley lines. Sharptor cross over a few lines but go back to Southley.

Right down in Cornwall is the Zennor stud, they often breed greys.
The Sharptor stud in Devon is a big stud have the occasional greys.

Maybe the ladbury stud in wales, last I was there they had a couple of gorgeous grey mares.

My first pony was a standard grey Shetland, full height and awesome. Always assumed she was Southley bred as she was the spitting image of some of their stock but we couldn't trace her.

Lots of Zennor ponies down here in Cornwall now and they have lots of lovely big greys.

I have a Riccalton pony too! Still quite dappled at 10 yrs old. He's beautiful and naughty in equal measure lol

Which one do you have? Flint still had silver joints at 13yo then went really flea bitten for a couple of years and he is now completely white - thankfully! He is 28yo now!

I forgot about the Briar Stud!

I have Kiwi - I'm not sure of his lineage off the top of my head but will check his passport later

Your lad isn't related to my one at all whichis strange for such a small stud. But then Flint is 28! Claylands Cheifton x Riccalton Harebell. The dam is in Denmark now. If you look up the stud on fb they will have pics of her.

I don't know where you are but in Hertfordshire there is Helawi Shetlands and they are also in Devon as well they are on Facebook, they breed standard and minis don't know if they specifically breed grey but it's worth contacting them they may have one, I have been there a few times to see the new foals as my friend has a few ponies they bred, and I know they had a standard grey stallion because he was in one if the stables.

Based in Cheshire but totally happy to travel for the right pony, obviously the closer the better though 😂 All I seem to do is drive around the country at the moment! Thanks for the tip, I’ll get in touch with them. I’ve emailed Ladbury who don’t appear to be on FB and plan to message all the others when I get a min, exciting 😬

Great, thanks - looked up and there are pics of the dam and sire, lovely to see :)

If you drive down the M4, on the north side between 10 & 11, just past the new housing estate is a field of grey shetlands, they are owned by a family that do pantomime ponies. I was speaking to the owner a good few years back and he said he always bought them if they came up at the local horse auction, trouble was he didn't know if it was one he'd sold before! (this was pre-passport days). You could ask if they have any for sale?

How much weight do you think a 38”, mature, Shetland could carry? Daughter is <3 stone and rapidly getting too big for our lovely mini. It certainly wouldn’t be hard work, literally just a walk around which is what she does with our little one. She has her sec A for LR. That pony that someone posted the link to looks lovely but smaller than I wanted ☹️

I forgot about the Briar Stud!
Viv has moved to Wales now, I think Abigail still has a few but worth a check.

Loving reading about the older lines, we had a Southley mare many yrs ago, other standards too from Lockhinge, Joan O'Briens Annwood stud, 2 Redhill ponies (Rhum was right on the limit) among them.
I remember C.Calypso out on the circuit when my daughter was doing the grand national and showing 😎

Claylands Calipso was a legend in his own lifetime! Along with Formakin Shona - they won't everything!

Hiposmum - the pony in the preloved add or which ever it is posted above isn't a Shetland. It has a Welsh head and not enough width between the legs so probably a cross bred but defos not a Shetland!

Firle have some grey standards I think. Cranford had some, not sure if they still do or not.

Oh really? Shows how much I know about them, lol. To be honest it doesn't overly matter - my daughter would be happy with anything 'white' and floofy to play with. She's going to be too heavy for our mini before I know it :(

I've been given a number for Vivien @ Briar, will give her a call when I get a min. Abigail said they might have a couple of potential geldings, fingers crossed...

Catchpool also do greys though theirs aren't always the biggest. Up by Glasgow you have the Platinumdale ponies which are mostly used for panto. Clothie stud away up in Shetland/Aberdeen have greys as well.

The more I think the more studs I remember lol!

Has anyone else got a HUGE ad for TK Maxx in HiPo's post?

My neighbour has just bought a grey Shetland mare, she's gorgeous and really sweet tempered. I'll have to ask her the breeding. :)
