Hopefully it's nothing more than a tweak in the field, but Kal was very sore and tight behind this morning - particularly in his hocks. Z was having a lesson with our trainer and had to stop :(. His lovely, balanced canter looked like a defective washing machine. He is also very quiet in himself. I have given him some bute, put a rug on him to keep him warm in case he is brewing an illness/is feeling poorly and he is back in the field. I will reassess him tonight and tomorrow and if he is no better, will get the vet out.

You wouldn't say he is lame . . . just sore and very clicky pretty much all over but especially behind. He did work quite hard yesterday - quite a lot of work in counter canter - and one of his fieldmates left yesterday for a week-long Parelli clinic so it's possible he didn't have the most settled night/is carrying some tension. Then there's the problem mare over the fence winding the boys up .

I am probably panicking for no reason, but given his issues I am worried. So please can I have some famous HHO get well vibes?

Ahh I've got one of them - generally tough as ole boots so if they are crook, it's something proper. But equally they can come back quickly too, so could well be that in your boy's case. Am sure your TLC will help no end :)

Thank you all - trotted him up this evening and he is definitely not right . . . looks like it's his right hock - warm and puffy. I can't see a puncture wound (and I looked reeaaaallly hard) so I cold hosed it, gave him more bute and he is back out in the field for the night - I figured he'd be better off with gentle movement than stood in for stiffness. I am probably overreacting because this is the same hock that had to be flushed in Jan due to a puncture wound from a kick. He came back from that really well and has been going so well that this is a worry. The clickiness is also a big worry - very stiff and creaky this morning - sounded worse than me and that's going some.

So - pls keep the vibes coming - I so don't want this to be the beginning of his hocks going :(.

Some improvement but he is still not right - and we have noticed that he is landing toe first behind. My farrier is coming up to the yard tomorrow evening so will ask him to take a look at his first to rule out foot problems and take it from there - still worried that we could be looking at bony changes - thank you for asking.

It seems loads of horses are going a bit wonky!
Ned is out of work and I've got about 3 friends who aren't riding at the mo because of lameness :(

Hope your Kal gets better soon!

Sorry to hear this, how is he doing today? I hope it's something that can be treated easily, try not to think of the worst case scenario, although i know how difficult that is.

Fingers crossed for the lovely Kal, Txx

Farrier had a poke and prod of his feet to check for foot pain - nothing. He has gone ahead and put back shoes on, just to see if that little extra bit of elevation helps . . . and he did say that Kal's left hock was a little stiff. I didn't trot him up yesterday, but will have a look this morning when I bring him in from the field for his breakfast.

There has been a definite improvement since Monday, but he is still not quite "right." He isn't on bute now and there is no heat or swelling anywhere - all signs are pointing to either a tweak or him telling me that it's time to do something about his hocks :(.

Thank you for asking.
