Greyhound dies due to fireworks

"Faye, a nine-year-old rescue greyhound who found a new family in the UK after being rescued from a dog meat farm in China, was also spooked by fireworks in Fleckney, Leicestershire, and bolted; unfortunately, this incident would turn fatal.

Owner Richard Wilford said, “She was fine in the house. We’d been watching TV and I waited for a break in the fireworks to take her out into the garden to go to the toilet before bed. All of a sudden there was an almighty explosion, followed by two more as three fireworks were set off nearby.

“Faye panicked and bolted for the house, running straight into the patio doors. The sound of the impact was as loud as the firework. She fell onto the ground and started convulsing. Within two minutes she was dead. It was horrendous.”

Sadly, I'm not sure the people who set these things off give a hoot about wildlife, animals, time of day/night, property, November 5th, people, the planet or their bank balance.

Whilst this is so very sad, I feel for farmers whose livestock are impacted by the necessity to set fireworks off willy nilly at the drop of a hat.

I am so fortunate in that my terrier just sees them as a barking opportunity so when WW3 is going on outside he is quite happy to go in the garden for a wee and an excuse for making a row. I have a job to get him back in, such is his indignation!!

I love watching fireworks but will happily give it up for the above reasons. I don't think they will ever be stopped though.
 
Yes, it's horrendous. There are an increasingly public number of reports about animals severely or fatally injured as a result of fireworks. There are so many reasons why it would be a good idea for them to be at the very least silent, if not actually just done away with. All sorts of technical light shows and performances could easily take the place of fireworks!!

it’s particularly awful because she would have raced in Ireland or England, then been exported to China and potentially raced there, then been dumped for the meat market in horrific conditions, then been brought back to England.... what an appalling life, to be ended in such an unnecessary manner

That’s the real tragedy ?
 
Such a sad story.
The sudden bangs from fireworks is the worst part about them...scaring everything, even us humans jump despite knowing what’s coming.

When i was around 7 i ran from the garden into the house, thinking the patio doors were open, because they were so clear and clean, and knocked myself out momentarily after bouncing off them.
It’s not something we think about with patio doors but they are best if tinted and left unclean.
 
Oh what a poor darling, and how horrendous for her owners.

A friend of mine recently adopted an ex-racer, and was going around telling everyone to put patterned plastic(?) film over any patio or internal glass doors, as many hounds aren’t able to distinguish that it’s a solid object, and it can be fatal, as the above shows. Awful way to go.
