Back to the vets today, he and I agreed that the toe had reduced in size but I explained that this was due to the fact that Flick wasn't walked yesterday so she had rested the toe all day (asleep on my bed....!!)
I have noticed this over the course of the lump, it swells up and bleeds when she is exercised then reduces and subsides when she rests it; on Saturday she had a walk and the toe swelled up and bled significantly.
So I have booked her in for an op on Thursday to have the toe removed, and a biopsy taken (and her teeth cleaned thank goodness!). She is 10 years 9 months old so she will have bloods, be on a drip, the full works - my bank balance is quailing already
I did say to the vet that I thought it was a mast cell tumour and he completely took the wind out of my sails by saying mildly 'oh, do you?' in a non-committal way. I love my vet, I trust him implicitly, and I did tell him that he has completely spoiled my huge panic and my conviction that Flick is terminally ill..... he has a good sense of humour too luckily
His comment was ' we will see when the results of the biopsy comes back' - so I have to try and be patient, never my strong point.
Flick is still in brilliant form at the moment, you wouldn't believe that she is nearly 11, so at least I am pretty confident that everything will go fine on Thursday
