Tonight Maggie managed to partially deglove her paw. Currently in the vets for a GA and stitch up.

Tendons visible (the white bit to the left of the wound)

She managed to get shut in the garden for about 5 minutes. I think she caught it on the back step as it's concrete. It's the right height and location for it.

I feel quite guilty about it!

Poor Maggie. Sight hounds have such thin, delicate skin. They manage to get tears to their skin so easily.

I hope she heals quickly.

Heavily cropped to get this attached! Maggie home and back in her bed.

Relieved to have her home. Tomorrow is already mental with 3 horses to do, gas being disconnected at 7.30am, driveway dug up, and a trip to the airport at 9.30am before getting a bit of a sleep!

Poor girl hope she heals quickly. Having experience of afoot wound that required regular bandage changes. I recommend getting a good waterproof boot for going outside in. The ones I used were by hurta and I got them from www.innerwolf.com

I've got an IV bag round it for now.... 🤣 I do have access to an endless supply but a boot may well be easier.

What shaped paw did you use that boot on? She's got long, thin paws...

Lily was a flatcoat and vets really padded the foot out so it was difficult to find a boot to fit. This one has Velcro down the side allowing it to open all the way rather than having to slide in from the top. Innerwolf have a shop in Leicester if you are any where near and they were extremely helpful allowing me to try on every boot to find the best fit.
These were made by Hurta and I think they are called outback

Yes, I'm only near Loughborough so I could pop down there but not til Monday as I'm on nights now. Probably worth a trip, although I've been offered the loan of a Therapaw boot on our local sighthound page so that might work for a few days

The shop is well worth a visit not only because the staff are so helpful but there is a dog friendly cafe next door that has very yummy home made cakes

Poor Maggie, I do hope she heals well - did you have the greyhound howl of doom when she did it?

I’ve always used IV bags, they stay on fine in my experience 😊

She screamed!

She won't wear an IV bag..... 🙄 I've cling filmed a glove on it! 🤣

Oh bless they are so contrary, I’ve had some that claim they can’t possibly wear one/walk in one too 😄 I’m mean so I ignored them.... I love the glove idea! 😊😊

Update 11 days on.....

Developed an infection, so on antibiotics. Chewed through two bandages, so now has to wear her basket muzzle when unsupervised. Refuses to wear a boot, so has been going out sporting a poo bag or a glove....

Edges not brilliantly together, so healing by secondary intention, but good granulation tissue today when I redressed it.

Is she fine in herself and just needs a bit more time to finish healing then?

Yep. Like a caged beast at the moment....

Isolated wound infection rather than a systemic infection. Tbh, I knew it was infected before she went to the vets. It had the smell of infection to it.

If I wasn’t supervising, my little darlings would rip off boots etc, so it just had dressing and one of the OH’s old socks taped on.

Ah greyhounds, dont you just love them! when Marty and Ace had a fight a few weeks ago Marty got 2 stupendous bite wounds and one of those got infected - luckily I got it ASAP, so a week of antibiotics and he was fine, it’s healed really well! I always find they do heal nicely even if it takes a bit longer than I’d like sometimes, so fingers crossed all goes well

She's torn through to the skin.... Luckily as an ex racer, she's used to a basket muzzle, even if she's not worn one for a few years.

Bless her, they’re not very tolerant of dressings etc, are they?

No, as my vet friend said, it wou have probably healed by now without her "help"....

Luckily between the horse vet box and the human first aid kit, I've got most stuff I need to keep on top of it. The vets are also happy for me to redress it as I see fit, and pop her in as required.
