hi i have a retired racing greyhound called blue, we have had him year and a half, when we got him he was very nervous, not house trained and would chase and kill every thing he could see and catch, but now he is a very lazy, laid back most lovable dog ever,he is 3 now much better with other dogs when out on a walk and very friendly with visitors , he does not need much exersize and sleaps all day streched ouy on the sofer, greyhound make lovely pets and well worth the little bit of effort to needed to socilise them and let them settle in to family life.

They make fantastic lazy couch/bed ornaments...fantabby natured....and if X-racer doesnt normally take to long to intergrate them.....they will walk for miles and sleep for days

love the 1 with the big cast on her leg hehe.

everyone that has greyhounds say they make wonderful pets, and great to have round house. they're just so adorable! and deserve a life after racing!

I've always had sighthounds....greys, lurchers & whippets....they are the kindest, gentlest dogs you could wish to share your home with. You must be careful if you have cats or other small furries though, and many greys who have worked/raced will never be able to live with them. But if you go through an experienced sighthound rescue they will find the right hound for you.
Don't just limit yourself to the RGT though when you start looking....there are many many grey/lurcher rescues nationwide. Just Google 'greyhound rescue'!

You could start here: http://www.greyhoundgap.org.uk/ and www.lurcher.org
The only problem is, you won't want to stop at one

i have had 3 greyhounds. our nominated charity is our local RGT. they are very good and socialise them first and work out what sort of home they would be better placed in. you could try contacting your local greyhound stadium and getting phone numbers for greyhound trainers. they often do there own rehoming. they are the best pet you could have i miss all mine they lived to a good age of 12-13yo

I've got two, both from greyhound rescue. One gets corns and has cost us a fortune in vets bills (wouldn't swap her though) so I'd ask about any you might get to see if they've had them.

Both of ours are rubbish at doing anything much except sleeping. Oh and we don't let them off the lead unless in enclosed space. They have one walk a day and garden access rest of time and perfectly happy.

They are like 'dog cats' I think. I have a terrier too and they think she is annoying as she interrupts their sleep!

I have 2 and a lurcher. I think they are easier if they haven't raced but generally they adapt to pet life very easily. Simba is a dear and can be let off the lead anywhere and is generally pretty good. I have to be careful with my other one Daisy she will chase small dogs and roll them over and nip them, hence she only gets let offf the lead in a big envclosed field with my own dogs.

Love life by the fire and crap guard dogs an electrician came the other day to quote and he basically had to step over them.

My two

I have two both ex racers. Unfortunately the charity i got them from was useless but i think they are now shut down. Both are fab in the home and make great companions but you need to make sure they match you to a dog. one of mine is extremely agressive with other dogs as was not socialised properly with other dogs. The other though is brilliant. Could not recommend a better dog and i have known lots of breeds. If you dont want to spend money on vets bills check their history as my boy has corns and it took 3mths and £3500 to get it fixed- absolute nightmare, thank god for insurance!
