I went to look at a weanling today, I really liked him but I think hes greying out. His mum is grey. He wasnt born with goggles, but he does have loads of white ticking through his coat, mainly from the withers back, his neck is black, and his face is mainly, although there is some ticking on his face. He also has a large patch of roaning on his back, some on his bum and his shoulder. So what do you think, will he grey out or not?

Damn it! You've only confirmed my gut instinct, but still :( I really like this little horse, bbut for weanling colts it really is a buyers market and the whole melanoma thing worries the hell out of me! That and the fact I would forever be looking at him and remembering his beautiful splodges, lol

To me I would say he would stay as he is. If it is any consolation, sometimes coloureds do not have 'solid' base markings. You can get some which appear to have roan type base colours (there is a correct name for it, but I can't remember what it is - search for colour genetics). For example, this is my 2.5 year old, if you look at his dark bit near his mane it is mottled with white flecks through it. The rest of his dark patches are a solid colour. http://www.facebook.com/trix69x#!/photo.php?fbid=427478532929&set=a.427254972929.220447.626507929 xx
