Is it me or do greys lose their coats quicker than any other colour?

My grey mare is shedding like mad but the bays + chesnuts aren't!

Brushed her off tonight and her stable looked like a scene from CSI....just the shape of the horse surrounded by piles of white hair!! and of course the famous mucky yard coat pockets are full too....

Little coloured rising 2 year old is losing white hair but not her bay patches...

So is it just mine or have I just never noticed before

I've got one of each and the pair of them are still firmly hanging on to their winter woollies! (they do live out 24/7 though so can't blame them!

I would def agree with that. All the rugs that I wash for greys are hairier than any others. My own horse is a grey and I fully clip her for the simple reason of all the hairs she throws. Dont know what it is that causes it, and she always moults well before any of the other horses on the yard. Can even pluck it off her legs in handfulls - not literally but thats how it seems.!!!

Now you come to mention it, my grey (white) mare is shedding big time and so is her skewbald filly (will grey out). However, my bay pony, her black filly and my oldie chesnut show no signs yet.

My boy's a chestnut, in at night in the winter and always hangs onto his winter woolies until he's absolutely definitely sure winter's over - he's a Sec D.

The horse I had before was a 7/8ths TB and would start shedding from beginning Feb - he was a grey and lived out 24/7!

This isn't fair....my grey won't start losing his coat till April at least, and will still have a hairy belly in June, then his winter coat starts coming through mid-August!!!
This is despite being well over-rugged all winter in an attempt to stop him going quite so hairy in the first place - what a waste of time and effort!!!

Yes!! I was wondering today actually why the chestnut horse I have hasnt started to shred his coat yet. But now you've mentioned it maybe my late grey horse just lost hers extra specially early?!
