Gribaldi as a sire

I would be a little wary of Jazz as a sire. Firstly, if you are worried about Chestnuts. Put two Chestnuts together and you will 100% get a Chestnut foal. (personally I love Chestnuts).

Jazz sires HOT babies. My friend has one and I think generally they are said to be "bright people."

The translations I have are:

Romp - in effect body shape - rectangular model lower figures, square shape higher figures
Halsrichting - position of neck, vertical or horizontal
Halsbespiering - muscling of neck, heavy or weak

They do the scores for a number of different traits, but I don't have all of Gribaldi's in front of me here (am at work). The above was just a couple from the top of the list which indicate which conformation traits with regard to overall structure and the head/neck he passes on. The full sheet goes into detail about limbs, paces and feet as well!
 
Thanks for that Ashbank. I had looked up my guys sire - Fidermark on the KWPN site and didn't have a clue what all the numbers meant.

Perhaps if I got all the info I could pm it to you and you might be able to help me with a few more translations etc. or failing that do you know where I would be able to find all the info, in English, for myself?
 
By all means PM me if you like, but as I said before, I'm honestly no expert! I find babelfish's translation tool very useful..

If you call the KWPN, they speak good English and are very helpful too - remember they are an hour ahead though!
 
babelfish is an online translation tool - some of the results are quite comedy, but you can get the general gist for most things.

beautiful but sharp horrible back ward thinking pigs!! that was one gelding though could be a one off though, howoever he was talented and we did well with him and he won his first elementary with 71% but the next day he had his rider off like you wouldnt believe he was very vendictive
 
I have a client with a Gribaldi gelding. Big, hefty, lazy but attractive in his movement without being flash. No idea what sort of mare he is out of.
Then I saw two at the Assoulines........chalk and cheese! One rather similar to the above, almost hunter type, not really sharp enough for a pro but amenable enough for an amateur if it didn't become too lazy. The other was a tiny hot chestnut, very flash,very sharp and defo a pro's ride!

Again, I don't know what sort of mare's they were out of but it makes me wonder if he doesn't stamp his stock particularly and that they take after the dam more? Dunno.

I've always heard he does stamp his stock well, and has quite a high reliability index. Maybe the ones the Dutch sell to Britain are the not so good ones :lol:
Normally he produces long lined and uphill horses, pretty and modern in type, and I know one thing he does need a mare to be strong in is a mare that brings her hindleg under her body well with good use of the hocks. I think Hofrat has a better canter than his sire and thats a slightly weaker pace than the trot in Gribaldi.

Oh, I forgot to mention colour! Of course Gribaldi can throw chestnut foals, but then they always say a good horse is never a bad colour, or something!

Contis, on the other hand, is homozygous EE and so therefore cannot sire a chestnut foal.

If you want a pure bred trak your probably best to go onto some of the trak breeding forums. Maren at trakehners international is very helpful and knows the ins and outs of many stallions and which mare lines they cross best with. Gribaldi is a wonderful stallion but so much depends on the mare, whether he would compliment her, what needs improving in her, her bloodlines and whether those bloodlines are a good cross with the stallions lines. I personally like the Sixtus line - look at Bluewood's stallion Axis a wonderful Sixtus son, I also second Michaelangelo - he is gorgeous. Also Summertime is very nice - lots of choice at that stud.
 
There is Summertime frozen semen in the UK. Can't remember the stud that has it but there are straws for sale. It would be nice having Axis standing in the UK for trak and non trak breeders alike.
 
I have an event mare mare by gribaldi and i'm very pleased with her, i am hoping she will go advanced as she has one hell of a jump in her (possibly from the mare though and not gribaldi)and she has 3 very good, well balenced paces, good enough to do top level dressage if i wanted. People on here have criticised his hindleg/ hock action and my mare is good in the hindleg, she is slightly better in front.
She has good conformation however she is high in the neck which isn't too much of a problem but if your mare is high in the neck it may not be a good colaberation.
I would say my mare has a good temprement but she is sharp (not malicious with it though) and not a novice ride, but i like sharp horses tbh but some people could find her a bit too much. She is a very qick learner though, you only have to show her once and she remembers. People have also said they can be slow to mature and i must say my mare is about a year behind (she's now 7, but she knows as much as a 6 yr old) but i think this is more due to the fact that her previous owner was a spoiled lazy brat and lost interest in her and just left her in the field 24/7 for 6 months doing sweet FA, and not the fault of my mare.

Would defintely say that Gribaldi is marketable, we had a filly in 2006 and were inundated with enquiries, phone never stopped ringing, sadly she got caught up in fencing so we removed her from the market. Now we are very glad we have, as she just grows more and more beautiful and as a sibling to Zera but in black we are very excited about her coming of age for bringing under saddle her full brother was sold to the US. Will defintely use him again on several of our strong hinded mares in the years that follow. Having seen him in the flesh several times theres a lot to like about him. However if the mare is weak in her hind end then he probably is not the best choice, the dam of our filly is by Goodtimes and the cross has worked very well and would now do it again, was hesitant because she was an absolute madam but is now really chilling out, putting her temper tantrums down to her requiring so much bandaging, vets, needles, and box rest.
