Gridwork help...

I was thinking about doing some gridwork this evening with my mare to try and get her thinking about her fences, rather than rushing them. However I am bad at striding/set up etc and was wondering what I should set up? I was figuring a couple of bounces then a 2 stride to the last? So 3/4 fences.

Mare is 14.2hh and short strided, how many little person paces (I am 5'4) should I do between it all?

Help would be appreciated, otherwise its going to be a lot of, 'oops, bit short/long please move it!'

Thankies!

Have you got someone on the ground to help you? As I think to do grids you really need a pair of hands on the ground to move fences, adjusts strides etc

Yup yup - my OH is going to come down with me - (and he will be the one putting fences up 4 holes and I go noooooooo!!). Yes, bit hard getting on and off, even if she is only 14.2hh, too much effort.

I think you'd be looking at 3 of your strides to 1 ponies? I would test the distance by having placing poles on the ground first and build the fence up from there.

I think that sounds about right - we will see how it goes - may just hack its a nice day and this jumping stuff is scary!

well it might be different for you but after the first jump, stand by it and walk 2 comfortable strides forward. Leave this for landing distance, and then 4 strides forwards (normal) for one stride. Might be 3 for your pony tho, try it out:):)
