Hi don't post on here very often but just want to get experiences about dogs having tails amputated. My 8 year old golden retriever is going to have to have her tail amputated. The lump was a cyst at first which was drained but then it seemed to get infected from almost day 1 of having it drained in January and this is it three months later

The vet looked at it on Wednesday and reckons its actually gone hard and changed into a tumour and its quite hot to the touch, so she reckons the tail has to go. She'll have a bit left at the top but it'll be strange to see my amber without one.

We lost a Goldie to a tumour at the base of his tail. They couldn't get the whole lot out and it just got continually infected until we decided to PTS. Hope your girl is OK, sounds like she may be a lucky one.

Poor girl, it looks very sore. My MUm and Dad's setter damaged her tail and it never really healed she just kept opening it up again. They didn't amputate but probably should have done. Good luck with yours, I hope she heals up fast afterwards.

Amber is still ok in herself although she does lick it when she thinks no-one is looking so I'm hoping we'll get this thing sorted before she starts to become ill or anything.
