Firstly, I always agree with calling grooms 'it', it gives them the right status...
I'd expect a groom at a riding school to know how to skip out, muck out, without leaving a trail of muck everywhere
I'd expect them to know how to tie a horse up safely, and how to tack it up in its normal riding school tack.
For turning out - how to fit a NZ rug safely and comfortably, how to lead the horse into the field and turn it to the gate before releasing (to keep groom and other grooms and horses safe from kicks)
Feeding and watering - not much except don't change a horse's feed unless the person in charge tells you to...and not to feed sugar beet dry.
Good luck

Are you going to actually work as a groom or learn how to work as a groom?
If former than I would expect you to know how to do: [ QUOTE ]

If latter than I would expect you to have open mind, ALWAYS ask if you are not sure, listen to instructions and smile

:snigger:
I would expect 'it' to know to always shut the stable door behind them even if only getting a bucket out.
'It' should also know how to cross surcingles and leg straps correctly so that the horse can actually walk!
Also 'it' should know how to tie a haynet and at what height!
I'm a groom and i am expected to know everything, so its lucky that I do!
All I could do with is a crystal ball.
Depends really if you are in charge of horses yourself or if you have a manager, then you'll mostly just have to follow instructions and just ask for advice when you need it. If you work hard and show them you're keen to learn you'll be fine.
