Having fried my brain with internet research, I've belatedly come to the place that always gives practical advice without trying to sell me things ;)

Our current dog is a Newfoundland x GS and has a coat like a yak. Her top coat is very soft and fine and her undercoat is something a Herdwick would be proud of. She sheds endlessly, particularly if its warm. She is not a fan of being brushed, although I have managed to get more acceptance lately and am using a nylon bristle human hairbrush which she tolerates quite well. I get at least a carrier bag full of hair every time I touch her, whether that's daily or weekly. I also fill the hoover bag quicker than a 400 bed hotel.

So I've been looking at grooming tools and wondering whether I should buy something designed to tackle her type of coat but, as previously mentioned, have fried my brain and am sick of every manufacturer pushing their product as the best ever.

What can the kind folks on here recommend? What are the must-haves and what are the nice-to-haves and will I need a second mortgage?

Thanks CC - have read your PM. I think I read on here some time ago that furminators were not great - seem to remember something about them cutting the coat. I really don't want to do that, just want to get rid of some of the excess undercoat which keeps emerging through her top coat.

Don't buy a groomi either complete waste of time we had Newfoundlands bred them for years my solution to their coats was a metal comb never did find a brush that went through although my 4 year old granddaughter assures me her detangle brush works on her fine easily matted hair. So a kids detangle brush might work. The comb had a wooden handle and quite closely mounted metal teeth similar to this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rosewood-P...ild=1&keywords=dog+comb&qid=1625326601&sr=8-8

Thanks Windandrain - I think I have something similar and haven't tried it on her because of her reluctance to be brushed but that makes sense. We didn't set out to get a Newfoundland, having always had border collies and collie crosses before but she came from a rescue and we knew they struggled to rehome large black dogs with attitude! Our last one from them was a collie x Bernese Mountain dog and they were keen for us to take her. She is a sweetie really but I can see she would be an issue for a novice owner.
