my teacher and boss has informed me that a friend of hers who is a mounted police officer has rang asking for a recomendation for a groom as they need a new groom asap. and she has recomended me!!!! they have got my number and will do background check on me and see if im good enough!!!!
i hope they like me! this is such an oppurtunity, as i wanted to apply to be a police community support officer anyway!
are there any mounted branch grooms on here, if so, whats it like lol.

I am not a groom for mounted but was a pc who spent some time with them.
I believe they work shift work as in morning and afternoon shifts until 8 ish therefore i think the pay is quite good. I think some of the grooms rode if the pc's were off, mainly around the streets of Milton Keynes which was quite a task!
I think you also get to travel with the horses when they go on visits to football matches, race meets etc. They also use horses for missing persons searches which may mean some late nights! All in all would have been a great job if it didnt mean relocating for me! Good luck and hope you get it!

When you say "checks" do you mean a CRB check, that is a check to see if you have any criminal records in all the counties you have ever lived. I had one done for my house sitting, it took 3 months for it to come through. But as its the police that do the CRB check anyway they mught rush it through seen as the job is with police. Luckey you let us know how it goes.

Im afraid its not the police who to the checks, its another service all together. Mine took ages even though for my new job even though I used to be a police officer and had had a few done before, it took ages as they need to check all the forces in the areas you have lived, i have lived in a few

It can go on for ever and ever and ever, or at least that's what it feels like. The length of time will depend on the level of clearance they want you to have. There'll be forms to fill in that ask all sorts of questions

Hope you get it - fingers crossed. One of my friends did this for the Met in East London for years until she re-located to Somerset for family reasons - she loved it.
Wishing you LOTS of luck & a quick checking time !!
