Grooming kit must haves

Just thought this could be a useful thread

So, it can't include any of the regular brushes like a dandy brush, metal curry comb, body brush, hoof pick, rubber curry comb, plastic curry comb, sponge.. etc. So just include anything that you feel should be in everyone's grooming kit.

For me it would be Avon's Skin So Soft in the summer months to ward off flies and also keep their coat shiny, and for winter it would be Net-tex Seven Day Mud Away to help stop hippo horses.

Sudocrem - great for just about anything, including inside the ears and teats and belly button (flies no like ).

Baby Oil - again, great for all sorts of things!

Hairbrush - Dizz goes all dopey and relaxed when I do her tail, mane and forlock

one of these gel massage brush things. It's brilliant for getting mud off (especially bony or knobly areas), grooming tickly sensitive horses, getting hair out, etc. It's much better than the normal rubber curry combs.

Martlin - another lover of Absorbine! Me and my friend have dithered about buying Superpoo, we couldn't make up our minds. I loved the fly repellent, but then found Avon's skin so soft as a slightly cheaper alternative! xx

I know you said not brushes, but I can only use leather back body brushes, anything else is just too, umm, wooden! Other essentials are a mud buster, tail rake, baby wipes and a pot of derma-gel.

really really sharp scissors for trimming ears, feathers, tail, whiskers etc etc.
a big tub of kevin bacon hoof dressing.
and i second babywipes for getting off eye bogeys!

Another vote for 7 Day Mud Away, its for, especially for my hairy boy in winter! Kevin Bacon's hoof dressing also gets my vote.
I love Carr & Day & Martin's Dreamcoat, best coat shine around IMO and does a great job on mane and tail too.
I always have a roll of kitchen towel in my grooming kit, really useful!

It had quite a few uses, but the one I'm familiar with is with making barrier against mud fever, and helping mud slide off lots of feather. xx

Basically pig oil, is an oil you can buy to put on the horses legs (and coat) and when the horse goes out in a muddy field the mud never sticks close the skin/hair because of the oil. I use it and with my horse walking about in her straw bed, most of the mud has already come off by the morning, as it just doesn't stick in. Very good stuff (it's made for pigs when they compete to put on their skin to make it look shiny!!)

Pig oil for me.. Baby wipes... That metal loop thing to get mud off...xx

I don't suppose you can use in on the whole horse?!

Mine is canter mane and tail, a shedding blade and sudocrem! Also arnica for cuts and bruises (and for me when I fall off!)
