Right, I've just invested in a new basic kit as I realised at the weekend that my stuff was actually disgusting!

I am determined to reduce the amount of stuff I have, on the basis that then I might keep it all more organised/cleaner....so wondered what everyone else keeps in their grooming kits? I mean the box/bag of stuff you use all the time, rather than stuff you keep in a cupboard and bring out when needed....what is in yours??

So far I'm thinking all I need is a body brush, dandy brush, curry comb, flick brush, hoof pick, hoof oil hoof brush, face brush and mane and tail brush, plus a sponge/wipes.
I'll also have canter coat shine as it is essential for OH's mare's mane and all their tails!!

Any other suggestions of stuff I should include? You wouldn't believe the rubbish I have in there now - last time I cleared it out I had 4 pulling combs - and only 1 or our 3 horses has a pulled mane?!?!?!

I keep mine in a box, I have a body brush, a rubber curry comb, a plastic curry comb, a metal curry comb, a hoof pick, a dandy brush a flicker brush a mane and tail brush, canter mane and tail conditioner, a sponge and some cut heal antiseptic spray.

OMG I've got loads of stuff in my kits! I've got one for each horse, so I won't do them both lol!

body brush,
flick brush,
goat hair body brush,
cactus cloth,
cactus mitten thing,
metal curry comb
oster tail brush
hoof pick,
cornucresene & brush
mane comb & tail comb
plaiting bands
thinning rake
sponges
stable rubber
hoof disinfectant
bot knife
oster face brush
water brush
willy wash
rubber curry comb
coat shine

....how I get all that in one grooming box, God only knows lol!

Hmm, yes, antiseptic probably a good idea. There is green oils gel in my kit at the moment as I find it super-useful in the summer!
Sweat scraper, I only ever use when I wash him down, as I have a really un-sweaty horse, so might keep that in my 'washing' box, with shampoos etc.
Jumpthemoon, how on EARTH do you fit all that in one box? And do you use it all regularly?

In my daily kit I keep
Body Brush
Metal Curry
Plastic Curry
Rubber Curry
Flick Brush (but never use it)
Dandy Brush
Cactus Mit
Tail Brush
Mane Comb
Face Brush
Hoof Pick

I have another large box with all my other stuff in like pulling combs, sponges etc.

I have my grooming kit in one of those Jute supermarket bags at the mo.
I have one kit between 2 horses.

In it is-

Oster hoofpick
Oster dandy brush
Flick brush
Pulling comb
Oster tail brush
Oster face brush
Goat hair body brush (for Solo)
Body brush (for Red)
Metal curry
Rubber curry
Scissors
Mane & Tail Spray
Sheepskin mit
CutHeal stuff
Flamazine Cream
Barrier cream

dont tend to use any hoof stuff in winter unless we're going hunting or jumping.

You will try to downsize - you may even buy a smaller box/tray but you will always end up with too much stuff!! Its horsey Law

Also if your current stuff is minging, just stick it in a bucket with Daz and really hot water and leave for 2 hours. Thats what I did and my brushes are like new! I had to re-varnish the wooden ones tho - but that was from years of use. Plus it got rid of old nail varnish I didn't want (yes I was THAT bored at the weekend!)

Yikes, bored? What is that?!? I will use some of the brushes again, but some of them are just beyond rescuing I think, mostly where my dog or others at the yard have stolen them and chewed them up, particularly the straps which are no longer there!!
I mainly want to use my huge grooming kit box that I have everything in at the moment as my tack box for the lorry, as it is one of the ones strong enough to stand on and would be handy for plaiting/mounting at shows!! So going to use the opportunity to have a good clear out. Bougt the Bentley Slip-Not brushes which look a bit like the Oster ones but are much cheaper! They are quite nice actually.

psst... if you are going to have one for everyday and one for best I'd be tempted to really cut down my everyday one to;

Body brush
Metal curry comb
Dandy brush
Hoofpick
Mane brush OR comb
Mane and tail spray if needed
.. and maybe one of... a rubber curry comb/grooming blade/favourite hair-getter-outer

!!

*scuttles off pleased with the minimalist idea but knowing that within 1 month her own box would have at least doubled if she did this!!*

i have a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge grooming kit - i got the majority of it when i started horse college

ive got a flick brush (really long bristles - i don't know what its called!!)
2 dandy brushes
one body brush - made with goats hair

cost £9! what a loser
a whole pack for plaiting and pulling
3 hoof picks
hoof oil
a hoof oil brush
3 plastic curry combs
2 rubber curry combs
1 small body brush
a cactus cloth
a tee towel (make shift stable rubber!)
a tail bandage
coat shine
mane and tail conditioner
a tail rake

For a basic kit I would have just:
Body brush
Dandy brush
Plastic Curry Comb
Rubber Curry Comb
Metal Curry Comb
Hoofpick
I wouldn't keep medical stuff with my grooming kit.
have to admit, my grooming box contains far more than I listed!!
