Grooming nightmare!

My arab mare hates being groomed! She swishes her tail and tries to bite and I wish I knew why. Its supposed to be a pleasurable experience? I had wondered if its because she is thin skinned. She's fine to tack up and when ridden so its not a pain issue. Any ideas or suggestions please? She's also grey so good grooming is a must!

Have you tried softer brushes? I know someone who bought a horse who hated grooming and you could only use those really soft goat hair type brushes.
Hope this helps!

or could be the opposite - are you using too soft and delicate a brush so you are in effect tickling her and really irritating her? I know someone whose horse hated being groomed - until we used a dandy brush. One of mine hated body brushes - but if you got the huge yard brush out and used that on her she would writhe in pleasure

I agree with Bosworth (although it pains me) - try using softer and harder brushes to see what she'll tolerate. If all else fails you could always just wash her off with a sponge and plain water?

aw shils - surely its not that painful agreeing with me. Don't think I have done anything to offend you.

Nothing personal, Bosy, just my boss doesn't like me agreeing with people - daemons aren't meant to, you know?
