Hi all,

Im wanting something that i can spray on merlyn after his bath for him to be ultra shiney the next day and also, something i can put in his mane and tail to be nice and shiney lol!! I dont want to be using baby oil on the mane and tail as when showing we will be outside in the heat (if that ever arrives) so dont want it burning him.

Ive seen the supreme products glistening oil but wondered if there was anything less expensive on the market.

Cheers :)

I am not a show ring type but S is grey and so has a white (ish) tail. I've tried many mane and tail shines/de tanglers but they are quite expensive so I now use pig oil... Use very lightly in a fine spray and brush through main and tail after washing for lovely shine :-) wouldn't use it on the body though!! Maybe showsheen (or is it showshine?) for this as have used it to good effect when needing to look that little bit smarter

I havent found anything better than Showsheen. Tried Supreme Products High Shine Shampoo, but didn't find it any better than regular shampoo. Haven't tried any of their other products though. I tend to spray Showsheen onto a microfibre cloth and wipe over horse wherever required.

Another vote for show sheen, I brush them with a goat hair brush or polish with a sheepskin mit used it heavily on the jet black fresian carriage horses and worked amazingly, ive use it on my paint horse for a giggle but didn't make much difference hes already super soft and shiny after a good bath but his white parts are like perlaescent silver when clean anyway

I like Asorbine show sheen

Another option is to use a hot oil product which you apply with a hot damp cloth, I have just invested in a bottle of the new hot oil by Supreme Products

A big fave amongst those on one of the showing forums is Shapley's oil, it comes up in discussion pretty regularly

On the day itself the king of products has to be Supreme Products Sparkle (no glitter in it or anything!) its sprayed on but I have used it sprayed on a grooming mit which makes it go further

Welsh D would you use the hot oil when bathing the day before or reqular like once a week?? I use the Wahl Copper Tone Shampoo when bathing and then the Carr Day and Martin ultimate coat finish (purple one) and then i use that on a microfibre cloth on show day to take away the dust, but I really want him to shine and stand out! :)

I plan to use the oil regularly but as a skin aid as opposed to making him shine

I understand that people use the oil the day before a show and put a lycra rug on afterwards normally though have heard that others use the oil in a final rinse tipped over and not put on with a cloth then rug as usual
