I have been told to trim the fur between the pads of my Black Russian Terriers feet.
Can anyone tell me why?
Also i have to pluck the hairs out of his ears, and having never had to do this before i feel a little lacking in confidence about doing it.
Anyone else doing this to their dog?
Jo

We used to do this when we showed the Borders to tidy them but I'm not sure what trimming a BRT needs (or what it looks like!)
We'd comb the hair on their feet upwards then trim lightly with the scissors also pointing upwards to blend it in well with no ridges, you can also do the underneath if necessary. Ears need to be warm to do; just hold the ear over a finger to keep it tight and gently pluck only a few hairs at a time. Take out the ones in the canal and any that stick out from underneath to neaten up. It's important to only pull the ones that are dead, with Borders they seem to lose their colour which gives a clue. Don't do them all at once else they'll be sore, do it over a fortnight or so. Once you've done them it's easier the next time, especially if you do them as soon as you see unruly hairs in future.

Thanks for that, I was a little unsure how to pluck the ears, but now will give it a go!
Do i HAVE to trim the bottom of his feet?
I am not showing him, and don't want to trim him if it's not nessasary, he was bought for a watchdog and pet for the farm so will suit the "shabby Chic" look!!

Of course you don't have to - he's your dog, do as you please!
Only thing I would say is if his feet underneath are hairy (suppose it was for insulation in the snow?) they might need keeping an eye on in case he gets stuff trapped in his toes, gobs of mud and stuff; trimming the bottom of the feet might just help that and hard stuff stuck might make him lame.
Have you any pic's?

Yes i have some pictures, i will try and download some off my camera at weekend.
i'm not very technical so will have to wait for hubby to come home this weekend to put them on for me.
He's really cute, he is only 14 weeks old and already weighs in at 18kgs!! (dog not hubby)!
