I am doing a small dressage competition on my yard soon and although it won't be a big deal, I would like to give my horse the full show prep experience as this will be his first show.

He is piebald so his white bits can be difficult to get sparkling at the best of times and with the days getting colder I don't really want to bathe him so was hoping to find some tips and tricks to getting him looking his best without getting him wet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
TIA

:)

I own a grey, and brush in baby powder to hide the stains. (Or use a pet-grooming chalk block which works better, but doesn't last long when being used all over!) I spray a little mane&tail on her hindquarters, shoulder and neck for bit of shine, and use human hair gel to keep plaits in place or keep flyaways down. Hope this helps :)

You probably will have to do some form of bath.... I use quicksilver which is great stuff, you can just use hot water and spot wash each area. Once you've done that I would recommend hot washing to get him really shiny- boil a kettle then top up with cold until the water is pretty warm but not scalding, then add a few sprays of coat shine, and a few squirts of any good no-rinse shampoo- barrier do a good range. Dip in a cloth, wring it out then wipe him all over. It should bring out the dirt and grease but not leave him soaking wet. For tails, I use quicksilver shampoo, then a good conditioner to keep his tail in good condition and stop it getting frizzy, then pop in a tail bag over night. Spray his coat with coat shine (not saddle area!) and put a turnout rug on over night- poo won't seep through.
For manes I recommend hair gel for flyaways, and hairspray to set them in place. Also, use a plaiting product to help you grip the hair- and don't wash the mane the night before or it will be very slippery! Supreme products white coverup is very good for hiding stains, and their sparkle spray is a great finishing touch for real shine.
