During the summer we kept our Bichon pup trimmed quite short. Now its winter we've let the coat grow longer to keep her warm.

I groom her every day, but can anyone recommend any products that will help keep the coat tangle free?

Thanks.

As a poodle owner I would say I find it easier to keep the dog in a shorter cut but I do use dog coats in winter. my dog is in a sporting clip,so the legs are long, but body is short.
In the wet weather ,or snow, the longer coats will felt and mat....and trust me I comb every day, sometimes twice daily.
Mine have thermal coats from gillrugs, and I'm fthinking to get a snow coat from Hurtta...
I know your dog has an active life,as does mine....fields and mud ,the lot...so a good waterproof is your best friend. you also need to let any mud dry, then slicker brush the mud out(especially on the legs).
I have had a good results using anti de tangling spray for horses on the long leg and ear hair...spray before drying the dog.... For me,it's a cheaper option for big dogs, than classic "leave in conditioner " for a smaller dog.

I second what Bellasophia said - a short coat will dry faster and the dog will warm up easier once inside if it's not carrying a wet blanket all day. Putting on a thermal coat is good for wicking on gun dogs, but on wool coats they just matt. My non competing poodle is currently in short pet trim and that's much easier to manage especially since the bitch is in show coat and takes a heck of a lot of time to keep maintained. On her coat I am using K9 Competition Keratin products - Shampoo, conditioner and spray. THe spray can be used while brushing out to assist with dematting without damaging the coat.

Thanks both. What you say makes sense - I'll look into getting her trimmed next week. She has two coats, neither of which fit terribly well (too big, she's so tiny..). Anyway, that's easy enough to rectify.

if you are thinking of booking her in to a salon, you may be waiting til January at this point. Most groomers will be absolutely swamped with pre Christmas business.

Look at equafleece rugs, they do a huge range of rug sizes and even custom ones.
