How much would you expect to be paid for working (and living on) a yard with approx 40 horses to be cared for, and being sole charge for the breaking and bringing on of 3 youngsters?

The role also includes general farm work, exercising, and grooming at shows etc

there is also some jumping training available, and the yard has horses who jump up to 1.40.

what would be a reasonable amount of salary to ask for? The yard is based in Germany :)

Accommodation is included, but I don't think food is :)

Any help appreciated!!!

(also in CR)

Difficult one, & never worked abroad but know generally the pay is better. Breaking & schooling 3 youngsters alone means paying for experience but the ongoing training is a good opportunity. For reasonable hours & free accommodation (not a shared flat or squat) I'd want £1500 a month in the uk.

It sounds like you'd have quite a lot of responsibility so I'd probably be guessing more around the 1000 euro's mark...
Have they suggested a wage amount at all?

If you calculate roughly how much you'd pay per hour just for the average instructor to school a horse, x3 horses plus even minimum wage it deserves a decent wage. Plus the fact you have sole responsibility for breaking them correctly. No good at transfering that to euros, haven't a clue on exchange rate at the mo. Worth checking location too, if its somewhere remote I'd want either use of a vehicle within reason or a higher wage to run my own.

£1500 per month to live on!!! After rent and expenses have been paid ?? Show me the way , my old job that was pure stress for 12 hours aday ( my choice) and managing 30 men, was only bringing in 15000a year, so I would snap that one up!!

all good points, thanks :) they havent given me an amount at all, just said they had 'a little' to pay for me breaking them??

its only a summer job, and i'll be leaving to go back to uni in september

Think of what you would expect to pay someone to break 3 of YOUR horses - remember you're not a charity and make sure you ask for all you're worth! I suspect if they are your average horsey employers they will expect to pay you £2 an hour and have u thank them for it every other second.....!
Seriously though, if you are worth it they will respect you for asking for more. And remind them - if you pay peanuts you get monkeys! :D

If you cam make the experience pay and live on it.. Then go for it... It is only a summer of your life, I wish I had had done it , but I lived for the moment !!! Can you put up fr it for a summer ? Will it help your future ?? If you ca answer yES then go for it xxx

Fair enough if its for the summer & guessing you're young if still at uni then less than my first guess would still be worth it for experience & the training that's on offer.
