anybody know of any good but well priced main and tail sprays out theyre, got a horse tht rubs his mane and thers half left now lol, but its gota be evened up to all same lengnth,is it best to keep a neck rug on him this winter to keep hair from straying or not?
 
Do you know why he is rubbing it out - does he have sweet itch? Addressing that would be the first thing to do - easier not to have it rubbed out in the first place!

Some people find that full neck rugs rub some mane out (ours have a short bit a few inches forward of their wither for a bit in the spring until it grows back!). I use this, fab stuff and a little goes a long way without being sticky and grose! http://www.naf-uk.com/products/detail.php?id=66
 
yea sweet itch is a problem, but also the fences get stained black with engine oil, and i dnt know if thts a problem cz his mane is black and greasy and it should b white as hes a piebald cob,wonder if tht makes it fall out more at the root
 
If he has sweet itch then that will be your main thing to overcome - if you can get that managed then you will be posting at the end of next summer for tips on how to keep such a long mane tangle free!

I would get him a sweet itch rug - preventing the midges biting in the first place is key. If you have a hunt around now you should be able to get a really well priced one ready for next year. My mare wears hers 24/7 from march to middle oct and doesn't have any sign of suffering from sweet itch at all. Well worth getting a rug on - if he isn't itchy then he won't rub on the fences either and get yukky oil on him (removing that must be a proper pain!).
 
lol, oil wont actualy come out anyway, not yet anyway,think its meant to fade out.yea sound advise, thanku,its weird tho cz hes 13 and he never did this till we went to the yard with the oiled fenced. we use to show him and he lovely long hair and feathers, proper flashy,but u cudnt do tht now lol
 
I have a New Forest on restricted grazing & if I forget to fence off the post & rail with the electrics when he is next to it he pushes his head & neck through as far as he can to reach the grass on the other side. Bingo ! His mane is gone in a foot long strip where he pushes back & forth. Takes for ever to grow back, didn't get to show him this year at all, the little devil. His mane is a little fragile because he is a pale dapple grey & his silver/white mane isn't tough.Makes it worse.
