I'm trying to mix things up a bit with my boy because I'm getting bored with our schooling routine - jumping twice a week and flatwork two-three times. If we hack, we go once a week and spend most of it doing fast work.

Anyway, I've decided to do some groundwork to have a bit more contact time with him because recently I seem to just tack up, ride and go home.
I'm already out of ideas as to what I can do with him

He will follow me around the arena and trot alongside me so I've done a few "trot poles" (two poles, me running and him following me, and he gave up once he realised he could get away with walking over them :p), some bending around jump wings and some flexing.

What else can I do to make these sessions fun for the two of us?
milk chocolate digestives and diet coke on offer for any suggestions :D

We did some fun exercises at uni where we got the horse to halt with two feet in front of a pole, two feet behind....getting them to leave one back leg behind in a V of poles....getting them to walk over 3 poles and halting with feet over front, second or last pole. Backing them up through and s shape of poles...then you can repeat all of these ridden which is entertaining...oh and getting them to stand and stay stood then leave them in a set space you give them, like a square of poles. Oh and also, walking past scary things and stuff like that to get them used to everyting is always pretty fun :) Hope this gives you something to play with :)
