I had my mare trace clipped in November/December as as yet it hasn't started growing out yet. Is this normal?

Her neck has started growing and she is out at night in a lightweight turnout with no neck! I try to keep her unrugged as much as possible! I should mention she is a tb!

I put oil in her food and she is shedding her coat but the rest just doesn't seem to be growing! Should I be worried and what can I do to help it grow?

Thanks

Nikki

It's not much to worry about. My horses still haven't put my effort into growing summer coat yet either, not many horses do until the middle of april, except perhaps finer types of horse.

But it is certainly nothing to worry about 90% of horses I see are the same at the time being!

Thank you for your reply! I'm glad I have nothing to worry bout! All other horses on yard are growing out already! One girl asked if she had just been clipped

I clipped my guy just after Christmas and you'll still be able to see slight clip lines in June! He's a laid back chap and keeps that attitude when it comes to growing his summer coat.

I clipped mine at the beginning of oct. ones pretty much grown out and can't see saddlepad lines anymore really, the other has grown his thin summer coat on clipped areas but not lost his winter coat and still looks freshly clipped! My filly is also loosing her winter coat really patchily, neck and bum summer coat now but middle section still half and half. I think this crazy extremes weather is messing them about this year, hopefully by may everything should be back to normal! But don't worry you aren't alone :)
