I know that for foals/yearling it's a problem if they grow too much too fast, but what about a green 3/4 years old? A horse that was underdeveloped and grew a lot between the 3,5/4 years old? Can there be problem for the future?
So is it common for a horse to grow a hand in a span of 6/8 months from 3 to 4?I cannot answer your question but wanted to add a little more data.
My mare was 4 when I got her last year and we think she's grown from 16.3 to around 17.2 in just a couple of months during spring this year after going on a new feeding plan and arriving at a new yard for the summer grass. She hit another growth spurt at 5, we think this might be because she was in foal as a 3yo so wasn't growing (much) at that time.
No I don’t think it’s common but I have seen it in a three year I bought years and years ago .He was 15.1 at purchase sold because he was too small I did not overfeed him but from the moment he got off the lorry he grew he finished a 17.1 .
I sold him at six ( that’s what I did then because I worked full time and I parted with them when they where ready to compete ).
However I heard later he had not stayed sound .
