I bought a pair of MH fusion riding boots which were delivered beginning of December and the bloody zip has broken on the left one.

I have had a rubbish day at work and was looking forward to a ride this evening, put my boots on, pulled the zip up and pft, gone. They have that waterproof type zip on so they can't be fixed.

Why is it that everything these days is just shoddily made? Arrgh!!! Now I have to return them and now have to wear the old ones these replaced.

Sorry, hot choc and homemade fairy cakes for bothering to read this!

If I'm honest, I dont buy MH anymore, mine boots fell apart as well!! Get a nice pair of Ariats

I agree with Sessle, I have had two pairs of MH before and they lasted 3 months at the most, my ariats are still going strong after 2 years.

This seems to be a thing with MH boots!! I have a pair - both zipz broken, and they leak! I only had them for 6 months, and they were used 3-4 days a week to muck out in (it was a deep litter bed) and ride in. They did get wet as I would wipe them clean of any mud/dirt each night. Not sure if that caused it, but seriously, for £160 I did expect better - a LOT better!

That and the elastic went within weeks - and they weren't too small for me as they had already slipped down and I could fit my hand in between my leg and the boot.

Strange, all my MH boots of various types have lasted years, and I'm not 'light' with shoes and boots.

I just think that of all the types of boots to make horse ones should be the better made. I mean yes, I wear them every day but at 150 a pair I expect workability!

I do have a pair of Ariats that my delicious OH bought me for my birthday but I can't bring myself to wear them other than when we go out - which I admit I have yet to do, but they are so lovely I couldn't bear to get them all yucky!

it seems to be the same with my Hunter wellies split within 3 months. Rubbish, should get myself a pair of ariat mudbuster like my OH...

Sigh.

i had a few pairs of MH boots and the zips went very, very quickly.

stopped buying them and moved to Equitector which are far better boots and last forever!

Completly going against the grain here, I have to say I have never had a problem with MH zips, however I have had 3 pairs of Ariats, and all their zips broke within 4 months! The most recent pair I had to cut off my foot, but then Ariat refused to refund them because by cutting them I had damaged them on purpose! But I wasnt going to bed with a mucky yard boot on, nor was I going to post myself off to Ariat.............. I suppose I could have just cut my foot off..................

Hubby and I have both had problems with MH zips, however I know people who have had problems with other types of zips too, it is a weak point.

MH will replace the zips if it happens within a year. If it is outside a year then there is a company in chesterfield called feet first who will do zip replacements by post - they have a website. Some cobblers and saddlers can do them too.

Apparently the chunky looking zips are actually weaker than the finer ones which contributes to them breaking. Wide fitting MH boots have the finer zips......

To protect your zips keep them clean of mud and debris, don't force them or trap fabric in them. Always store your boots fastened and with boot trees - do not let them fold over!!!!

To prevent leaks use Nickwax (the stuff in the tin - original formula) on all leather parts before the first wear and then once a month or so thereafter. Nickwax do lots of other products for non-leather boots and for quick cleans etc which are well worth checking out too!
