After several posts on here about silent cyclists spooking horses I educated my cyclist OH on how to approach a horse.
I told him to shout a cheery "Hello" as he approached so the rider knew he was coming and to ask if it's ok to pass.
OH came up behind a rider last week, souted "Hello" and "Good Morning" at increasing volume 3 times.
Rider continued to plod down centre of road without acknowleding his presence.
OH understandably got fed up crawling behind horse and passed as far away as he could (bearing in mind horse was in middle of road).
Cue torrent of abuse from rider telling him he passed too close!
The rider had headphones in so couldn't hear him shouting!
Given many cars are pretty quiet and I struggle to hear them without headphones in what would she have done if he was a car getting impatient and wanting to pass!
Grrr - this isn't aimed at all riders but cyclists get a bad press for spooking horses, then when they try to do as they're asked they still get abuse from inconsiderate riders.
