again like Mr President its the creative marks and then although the piaffe was bad there were some strong movements which would have pulled it up on the technical side.
Will be interesting to see the breakdown as so far the site is only showing the overall

tbh although he wast the nicest horse to look at i have to say upto now he has had the most expressive paces which i really like to see
vallin I dont think so, I think they have a list of compulsory movements which are scored 1-10 and they obv try and put it where it best suits the horse. which is the technical marks
then they get a mark for artistic merit, flow of test, inventiveness, music etc.
I'm determined to at least ride in top hat and tails in pure dressage (i.e psg) and wanted to do it on Dan but injuries got in the way when we were training AM!
Fleur I reckon has the ability (already playing with piaffe half steps) and old instructor agrees but not so sure about her brain as she has the concentration span of a flea
Ah ok, thanks ester, S_C you can have a selle Francais to do it on if you want! after our escapades at the weekend doing pirouette in the middle of a busy road, i'm sure she could do it

Basically as above
You have to perform set movements at least once, you will often see them repeated either if there was a mistake to improve the score (the judge will give first one 4 for example and second one a 8 so get a 6 as average). There are marks for everything from the halt to the piaffe to the piaffe/passage transitions never mind everything else.
There are then the creative marks which as mentioned include the difficulty of the floor plan, use of arena, suitability of music to combination amongst others.
Creative marks are often seen to be artificially high, for example about year ago i think it was Anky went in to do her Kur and they played the wrong music playing a kur for her other horse so although the music was completely wrong she still won by a mile, lots of eyebrows were raised at that decision by the judges!!
hmmm Richard liked that Piaffe, I didn't barely showed any flexion in the hocks or sit of the quarters. Yes it was even and regular but I want to see the weight shift

Now call me a hypocrite, but I really don't see how people find dressage boring!
I'd much rather watch a varied routine like this than the same old course over and over again

I find it incredibly dull. I have been trying very hard to watch it, but to me it is on a par with watching paint dry. Sure its all very clever, but there is no thrill or excitement and with having to wait so long for the scores I don't get any real sense of competition which to me is an essential part of watching any sport.
Don't get me wrong I'm pleased the BBC are supporting it, and I'm sure to people who are into dressage it is very interesting, but I certainly don't see it ever catching on as a spectator sport.
I do sometimes find watching a big show jumping class can be a bit dull too, but this is in a league of its own.

I am not into dressage which is why i watch it to music
however i appreciate what these guys put into their horses and some of the movements have me in awe,i couldnt dream of riding that well,it is appreciation of how well a horse can move when so precisely trained!
