Have been let down by yet another farrier.

Swapped because last farrier kept cancelling and so poor girl was going far too long between shoeings.

Lil has been a bit 'off' since her last shoeing but thought it was a shoulder injury caused by her having a panic attack in the stable after it was done.

Vet came today and pointed out that her front heels are massively different. One is about two inches higher than the other.

To say I'm livid is an understatement, we trust these people, I don't know how to do feet so I pay someone to do it for me. Yet another farrier has now done a poor job on my horse's feet. Vet thinks it could take 6-9 months for them to grow to where they ought to be.

arent farriers registered??? ( i dont know but they should be)
Id make an official complaint - you are right - we pay them for their expertise and trust them to put our horses welfare first - i would go berserk!!!

Obviously we haven't seen pics of the feet but bear in mind, horses feet can change shape if they have some sort of injury and they rest one leg and stand more on the other - the leg they rest will sometimes end up with a more upright and smaller looking hoof, and the leg they stand on more will end up with a slightly flatter bigger looking hoof.
Obviously you would expect your farrier to notice the hooves are different and speak to you about it which I'm assuming he hasn't?
Just though I'd put that out there as you said you suspected she had a sore shoulder, maybe she has been resting that leg.
But for it to get to 2 inches difference - that must have been going on for a while.

I would always speak to someone first - reporting them behind their back is a big deal that could cause them problems. After all - you never noticed until your vet pointed it out... Yes blacksmiths can be a pain, but then so can some of their clients. You just have to keep looking until you're happy with someone. Sometimes that takes a few farriers...

Thanks everyone, I'm not looking to make a complaint, all that would mean would be that he wouldn't shoe my horse again. At least he turns up which is a massive improvement on the other farriers in this area.

Will be watching very closely when I get him back out to shoe Lil to make sure that her feet are being rebalanced.

Just so frustrated. Its not a cheap hobby and I've lost weeks now not being able to work out whats wrong.
