Ok since I have had K back he's been getting basically veteran vitality and alfalfa chaff with hoof and joint sup, very little infact. But since the land I rented to keep him on was sold and I lost use of it (was refunded though) and I had to give him hay and keeep him in everyother day he has gotten very fussy.
I changed him onto spillers conditioning fibre and VV with the sups and this got his interest but the supplier of that closed her shop and now where locally was doing it so I popped him onto alfa-oil and he was eating that fine. Now he's stopped eating again I took the chaff away and left him with the VV added linseed and the usual supps and he refused to eat it, so popped linseed alfa-oil and his supps with some alfabeet in the bucket and he licked it clean. Did this for a few days then added the VV back in and he turned his nos up, took it out and bucket was clean
So I'm thinking of overhauling his diet as he's lost a little condition, not enough to worry my but we have moved and there is only 3acres for the guys so will probs be supping with hay over summer so I don't want him getting too light and would rather he was a bit on the plump side for coming back into work as I've done with him every year
So I was thinking of giving him the below feeds
Spillers conditioning fibre (found a supplier not local but worth the travel)
Alfalfa pellets 25kg bag(I can soak or put in his ball)
Linseed meal 25kg bag (found a new cheaper supplier of that also)
He would basically get all the above fibre and a full mug of linseed in that along with his supps three times a day at the minute then twice a day IF required in summer he will be doing some work not just a paddock ornament
This believe it or not would work out sheaper than what I'm paying currently for a bag and a half of alfa-oil and two bags of VV per month. He can't have cereal as he's intolerant and he's been a bit sluggish out hacking for the last few weeks so looking to perk him up hopefully anyone think of anything else? I'm trying to keep his feeding including hay to about £70 per month as thatit is at the minute, the above will be costing me around £50 per month, I don t count the supps as I buy those bulk and they last me 6months at a time
I would have thought the above would be a good BF diet as well so BF folk feel free to comment.
