Grrr, Why do people do that?!!!

I had a lady come to see my horse today knowing all the details and after also watching a video. She bought a male dressage rider with her who seemed a little stern at first but turned out OK. Anyway to cut this short, she rode my horse OK, but rode her from the inside rein and poor Sol looked quite confused esp as said lady was bouncing around a little bit. :o
After about 20 mins of doing different things, she stopped her by us, with a big grin on her face and said that she liked her and her instructor then said "She is 12 and only going out at Novice! Is that what you really want?" I then said that she is still doing Novice cos we need 3 points to qualify but when she has qualified, then she will go out doing Elementary and for how long she`s been schooling dressage, I think shes doing very well.
I then turned to the elderly lady riding and asked her how old a horse is she looking for? To which she replied "Ideally about 5-6" !!!!!!!
I felt like saying "well what are you doing wasting our time looking at a 12 year old?"
But as I am a very polite person, just said "Oh!"
So why do people go look at a 12 year old if they really want a 5-6 year old?
I hate all this selling malarky....... >:(
 
Not knowing much about dressage except that it's quite challenging, would such a young horse (5-6yo) be well schooled to that sort of level anyway?
 
Because people like to waste your time and obviously can't read the fine details about the once piece of information which is usually a main factor when going to look at a horse - the age of it! Do you think they were "joy riders"? Bet you wouldnt want these people to have your horse anyway now..
 
I wouldn't of been able to hold my tongue I'm afraid.

I doubt I would be rude, but I would of reiterated the fact that I had told her the horse's age prior to the visit. I also would of asked why she bothered... joyride perhaps??
 
I'm afraid it goes hand in hand with selling horses, ie. timewasters out for a day trip, that said not everybody does this intentionally, it could be that the person who was with her is having a bit too much of an influence over the decision, it really p***es me off, it is usually a very heartbreaking decision to sell a beloved horse and made even more so by people who mislead you or don't even have the decency to get back to you, (sorry this is a bugbear of mine) i hope you find a good home for your horse.
 
Skint1, Thats the thing, a young horse doesnt have as much knowledge as an older horse with the added tension of first time shows etc whereas an older horse usually has more experience and takes it all in their stride.

Izzwizz, they knew the age, its in the ad, then he asked when he first saw her, then used it as a negative!! They knew the age. Sooo frustrating.

Boe, I think you are spot on with the influence thing as she seemed to be enjoying her time riding and asking all sorts of questions and seemed genuinely interested until he said that.

I hope we dont get too many time wasters or joy riders as it was a tough decision and heart breaking. :(

More fool her, as presumably it's her money buying the horse and she'll be the one sitting on it (or not, as perhaps her dressage rider has it in his mind to get a new ride for himself out of it... stranger things have happened). Annoying for you though!
