One of the ponies i work with is definetly in my bad books
mad.gif
!!! shes always been difficult to catch, we think this is due to her past as she used to get chased around a field and abused. But she has never been this bad and she is just taking the michael!! Shes knowing me for 2years, worked with her since day one. She was difficult to catch in the big field so got moved to the smaller one and was fine until now she just runs away from you and then gives you a cheeky look

! treats don't work, food doesn't work nothing works!! its not pain related or anything. Its not possible to make the field any smaller and i no peopel are going to say jst keep her moving so she cant get the grass, but the thing with that she begins to get all sweaty and stressed, obvisly remembering her past

. it took me a week to catch her last time she was out! and now that she's back out she wont come in

she always decides when she has had enough then comes in. we no longer feed her in that field and have took her companions away from her. The rules are if she wants fed she comes to the yard for it! any one got any tips

Wow, that takes me back.

The only hing I found worked was the give him his feed, and wait until he was really eating it, then slowly, hopefully without him seeing, was a bit hit and miss, quietly slip the lead rope around his neck, almost as it just going to give him a pat on his neck.

Under no circumstances was he allowed to see the rope other wise, i could forget getting anywhere near.

I now keep his head coller on all the time.

Good luck.

Also when you do catch her, do not ask anything from her, am a nice brush, or smoething she will enjoy and then release her

Is she turned out with a headcollar on? just to give u a bit of a fighting chance?

Id say maybe try the sitting ignoring them thing as some horses just cannot bare it!

Or if there is 1 companion in the field wit hher go in catch them give them lots of treats and attention in the field and see if she comes over to see whats going on then treat her etc.....

Yes shes got her headcoller on, i've tryed ignoring her in the field like jst picking stones out the field checking fences etc she just doesn't care i honestly think this pony knows every trick in the book and the rope thing i tryed that gave her her feed walked away, she wouldnt come near it till i moved then slowly went towards her and she went away. Ye when she was easier to catch i would just bring her up feed brush and check her over then she would go back in the field. shes just a moody mare, but its honestly getting beyond a joke now

If my new pony turns out to be a bad catch - 1 of 3 things will happen. 1. he will be sold to the local riding school - they will love him. 2. He will be moved to a livery yard where they are kept on tiny paddocks or 3. he will be stabled 24/7 until the winter and the field turns to mud. No questions asked and I will not make any apologies for doing any of these. I do not know what is worse, one you cant catch or one you cant load

Our pony is a nightmare to catch! I've made a smaller paddock in my big paddock and still she wont come in. We go in with the lunge line and corner her, when there is no where to go she stands there and looks at me as if to say okay you've won

and I give her a pat and bring her in.

having one to catch is really worse

don't you just wish they would do wot you want grr! guess thats the fun of having them though lol! might try the lunge line thing, knowing my luck she'll jump it!
