Argh. Why are tweed jackets so bleedin expensive?! Even the ones on Ebay are £50 before P&P.

Saying that I found a nice brown tweed for about that, is that correct to and Green tweed is just more fashionable?

Most tweed jackets are made of pure wool, so that puts the price up. It's not actually to do with being tweed - even the plain navy wool ones are around that price. The difference is you can imitate navy with cheaper polyester mixes much easier than imitate tweed.

Green is more common in the show ring because it looks good on most colours. Brown is less so because not all horses look well with a brown tweeded rider.

The one colour to avoid, for showing at least, is blue.

£50 for a show jacket (tweed or otherwise) isn't expensive?! Yes, a **** quality child-labour jacket from china may only cost you £25 new, but £50 is actually quite cheap for a jacket. ANY jacket, not just a riding jacket.

Buy 2nd hand. There are lots advertised on horse quest, ebay etc that probably cost about £250+ new but are knocked down to £50ish because they have been worn for one season !

Agree with Miss Bird though , please avoid blue tweeds , brown or green is fine it just depends which colour suits your horse.

Ask in tack shops etc some do second hand jackets. I think £50 on ebay is quite good for a jacket def avoid blue jacket. The shires jackets are cheap and good value for money starting around £60.

I got a shires huntingdon one for £70 and tbh, it was worth it. I was looking for a cheap second hand one but just couldn't find what I wanted and this way, I got a nice new one, I had the option to change if it didn't fit and the option to return. Best £70 I've spent in a while, used it this year for showing and I expect many years to come :)

£70 is pretty cheap tbh, compared to what I looked at when searching, but they tend to last.

TBH I really mind paying £50 for a decent jacket. But I also really want a saddle suitable for showing in for Herc and a new bridle for at least Blue...just because lol....and am practically unemployed at the moment so am kinda broke.

It's the £300 for new ones that really shocks me.

Tweed is expensive, Tagg do some reasonably cheep ones i believe, id steer clear of blue tweed as its seen as a bit cheep and tacky even if it wasnt cheep to buy. A decent tweed will last a long time so it can be worth it.
