Hiya everyone does anyone know how to cancel an echeque someone has sent to you via paypal before the cheque has cleared?
I am absolutely fckn livid!
Sorry for swearing but I really am mad.
I sold a rug nearly 2 weeks ago.
I ask on listings to pay within 5 days or contact me or else neg feedback left and item will be relisted.
This was because in the past I have had to wait ages for payments by some people even a month on one occasion for a payment which is just taking the p*ss.
Anyhow I invoiced the buyer on day of sale, no reply or payment.
I email a further 2 times with a payment reminder over the next few days still nothing.
By this time worried because they have 2 neg feedbacks as a seller and the last time the person said coms great to start then nothing and they didn't receive the item.
Alarm bells ring as they would.
By this time I am getting pretty frustrated.
Now have never done second chance offer before as never had the need to.
This time I did and the buyer paid the same evening I gave them the chance to buy and rug was sent next day.
I had to wait 7 days with ebay to file a dispute with the original bidder in order to get a FVF final value fee refunded. On the dispute I told the truth that I had waited the 5days ( in fact 7 when dispute opened) and had no contact to 3 emails and no payment. I also said the rug was now sold as a second chance offer to an underbidder and may have said about the FVF I think? I cannot check through ebay because for some reason the dispute thread is not there?
I also left them negative feedback as well.
Person who bought the rug was really happy so well chuffed as I had had feedback left.
Also I then saw an email in other half's email -as he has selling account I just run it and it's my stuff anyway but I don't have paypal hence the reason he sells- saying you have a pending echeque payment from ..........
Now I am really mad.
No contact, no explanation for late payment.
Obviously not read the dispute which said that the rug was sold etc.
I have emailed them to ask them to cancel payment. I don't know if they will or not. I have tried looking on paypal to see if I can. I don't know if you can refund an uncleared echeque but to be honest I don't want to do that because if they cancel or it bounces I will be out of pocket and yet I have done nothing wrong.
Stupid ebay why can't you just try and claim the fvf without all the rigmarole.
We have 100% feedback which proves we are honest people now that could be all ruined because of just one person.
If anyone has had anything similar happen or knows how to deal with this please say so ?
thanks ever so much x
Caroline

I think you just decline it

Thanks Weezy I've tried but all it says is details and uncleared.
I know you can decline paypal payments but have only ever dealt with echeques twice before and they were straightforward

I am logged in again now so will have another look but I'm just speechless about it all to be honest as we are not the sort of people to rip others off and are as genuine as the cows come home

I once had an echeque sent out rather than a Paypal payment (cannot remember why now, glitch in the system or something) and when the vendor informed me we agreed he would decline it and I would pay via my credit card on Paypal - it deffo worked but have no idea how he did it.

Sorry you are having probs, some people are just seriously odd!

Log into your account and go to the transaction, scroll to the bottom and click refund

This refunds the echeque- we have to do this all the time, as we don't despatch until it has cleared (takes 10 days), as we have had quite a few bounce. So we send goods and end up with nothing, plus bounced echeques costs the person nothing (unlike a bounced cheque)

Thanks Weezy, I know yes some people are

Have just looked again and on the details section the only option it gives you is to refund but I am unsure whether to do this or not because I don't know if that will refund the cheque ie refuse it or it will take money from oh's card in which case if the cheque gets cancelled other end or bounces we will be out of pocket.
Paypal is no help either because they don't give enough information in their help section about it.
Just feel so frustrated more than anything because I just want to say no I don't want the payment as the rug is sold etc

Thanks Cotswolds

does this just refuse the cheque then and no money comes out of paypal or from card etc.
Sorry I know I'm panicking it's just that I don't want these people to end up in pocket when they have messed me around so much and all I have done is be honest.

Thanks have just read your other post and that has assured me x
Thanks so much you cannot believe the hassle this transaction has caused

I am eternally grateful and I do mean what I say, thanks again x

You'll see nothing in your account.

Not entirely sure what happens on the buyers side - Weezy did the cancelled echeque take funds from the bank or did it just stop?

PayPal is sneaky - our buyers usually expect quick goods, so don't want to wait 10 days. However if something silly like you expiry on your credit card runs out, PayPal swaps to echeques

YES, I remember now, I had a new debit card issued, and thats why an echeque was issued.

On my Paypal the statement read as funds out, then funds in - cannot remember even seeing it come out of my bank and going back in, but it was all done on the same day.

Cazee another thing, as they didnt respond to the dispute they CANNOT leave you negative feedback, so that is safe.

If it was me i would wait until payment clears (if it does) and then refund it. Safer all round.

Im with cobland.... just send them an email saying the rug is sold due to them not paying in time, and as soon as the cheque clears, refund them... then noone is out of pocket!

Hiya Cobland and Lexie, thanks for your advice

Yes I would have waited for the echeque to clear then refund but as Cotswold advised above you can cancel it before it clears by clicking refund and following instructions. It does really work so was relieved, thankgoodness.
The Psephologist, thanks too I did that last night after cancelling the cheque and also blocked people who have 2 or more unpaid strikes too.
I already ask ebayers to email before bidding if they have 0 feedback or less but people don't always read the instructions which is frustrating. At least now I have changed the account to block certain feedback scores so that may afford some protection.
Ebay, all I can say about it is that is certainly is an eye opener.

A big

to everyone who posted though and offered advice it was truly appreciated x
Not just for me but for anyone reading this who may be in a similar position in the future because at least now they will know what to do.

Ive just been caught out with the echeque thing due to my debit card expiring - no warning when I processed the payment and I am mortified. I have always done instant payments with anything Ive bought so to suddenly find the seller will have to wait 7 - 9 days for their payment really shocked me. Paypal said they have to cancel it but they didnt know how so now we just have to wait it out before they send the goods. I think Paypal have been really sneaky with the whole echeque thing as their payments always come from my bank account direct and my card is only a back up. At least I know how to cancel one now if it ever happens in future!
