Red-1
I used to be decisive, now I'm not so sure...
Grrrr, I DO love Jay Jay very much, but sometimes he tests out my patience.
I had just got back from an early morning swim, OH and I were looking at old photos on the computer, Jay was mooching round his winter turnout paddock. What could go wrong? Jay is on rest in a small area for his suspensory injury, all was well.
Unbeknownst to me the electric fence energiser was up and running, red light banging away, but the connecting wire to the electric fence had broken. Of course, Jay Jay soon realised that the electric was not on.... I mean it *should* not have mattered as it is also post and rail fenced to the normal height, with a hedge behind much of it too.... the electric tape is above that height....
I looked out of the window to find Jay Boy grabbing the electric tape in his mouth and ripping it off the plastic connectors. I don't mean slowly, I mean he was having a fine old time, like an Andrex puppy, ping, ping, ping went the connectors. I went out and chased him off, to find he ran right to the other side of the school, grabbed the tape and ripped that off too. Ha Ha, thought Jay Jay, a GAME.
I had to go get boots on, to go catch him, by which time he had a piece hanging from his mouth, shaking it about, and then dropping it so it was ground into the floor......
I felt really rotten catching him, as he was obviously having a FINE old time, he was squeaking and running, bucking and tossing his hair like a Wella advert.
So, I fetched him in, whereupon of course he pebble dashed the grooming stable, including filling his hoof care tub
HOWEVER, sneaky mummy and daddy have spare equipment, we mended the energiser wire, put right the tape, with 6 new tape holders, one new rail and another rail repaired. We also put a cross member to brace one of the uprights he had loosened. JAY MONSTER was not invited back until we had got the battery charger, attached it to the mains and battery for maximum ZAP, and fence tested the lot to 6,000 volts.
Jay was invited back into his paddock, and we sat back, and only had 30 seconds or so to wait before he went to grab the tape for his new game. WOW the zap was enough the let loose an explosive fart, and to jet propel him across the school.
He has since tested all areas on the arena fence, just with his whiskers and is now sulking in his corner.
Jay Man, got to love him!
The video is not from today, we were too busy to film, but it was from just 3 weeks ago. It shows just how much fencing the Jay Man takes! He is finding rest and recuperation in a restricted area very tiresome, even now he is back in some minimal work. He is only supposed to be walking and a slow trot, not sure how we can enforce that. At the moment he is really only out when supervised, for obvious reasons.

He is so beautiful, but not an easy keeper!
Jay is having at least a year off proper work, and possibly forever. So, I have been looking for another. In light of today's antics, it is even more surprising that I have contacted the person we bought Jay off, to see if he has another like him (Ho, Ho, Hollow Laugh).
Anyone else have troublesome tinker of a clever, energetic horse?
