Grrrrrr Dog needs a dental!

My terrier always suffers from plaque as alot of terrier types, I always scale them myself to keep them in check, he's always had halitosis from a pup it comes from his stomach, but have noticed hes smellier than usual........

So I set about giving him a descale and :-( he said sod off under no circumstances are you sticking your fingers anywhere near my mouth!! Bless him he didn't grumble just wriggled, could barely look at his back molars, but they look yuck! Looks like someone is having a GA before Xmas GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

i feed mine 1 one of these daily, you get 12 for £3.80 from sainsburys, they keep my dogs teeth very clear (my collie cross does not chew her food so can get bad plaque)

they are made from rawhide and rice flour and dont upset my lurchers stomach (she has colitis) hope this helps, it may save you a vets bill....

Ahh bless you thanks!.... hes 13+ and this will be his first dental.. so I haven't done bad! He's not a chewer unfortunetly, and I think there is a crack in his back molar ..... He honks, so probably is.. he's not off his food etc, but will get it done this side of Xmas.... poor baby had his eye removed last year, he is a pickle!

youve done well to get to 13 before needing a dental shame he isnt a chewer as mine love them. by the way they are not like the hard chews, they crunch them up like a biscuit. i was looking at having dentals for my collie cross and she was only 4 at the time, and it was my vet who suggested them so she has done herself out of some work as it has made a real difference.....

Ha ha you should have a greyhound then, Islay has just had her second dental within 12 months (at £325 per time) and now has no teeth left other than her 4 canines She has perked up no end after her second one (last Wednesday) and is eating fine, so I am pleased I had it done - heart and blood tests all came back 100% too, not bad since she is 8 1/2

My other terrier was 17 back in June and his teeth are pearly.... mind you I do attack them too!! but I think just have better teeth that others don't they!! x

Thats really good and saved yourself some pennies.... wouldnt recommend this to anyone and shouldnt say it as not a clever thing for a Vet nurse to say BUTTTTTT throwing sticks ( I know holds head in shame) does wonders for Scraps teeth, he is not a chewer, but will destroy sticks in seconds, he has clean teeth after a session stick throwing!

Oh bless him he has done well - and of course he will be dead cheap since he is only little I hope all goes well for him and he doesnt have too many extractions

me too!! Terriers have HUGGEEEEEE teeth!!........ Hate sending my babies in for ops, cos I work there they ban me from theatre and then I feel helpless and fret and imagine they are going to die! DRAMA QUEEN!!

Would he eat small chicken wings or frozen carrots? Both fab for keeping teeth cleaner than normal. Blooming fab for him not to need work til this age!

thankfully Betty is a chewer- and loves her rawhides!

she did have to get a tooth removed (a lower molar) as she had cracked it clean in half and sheared some off! bloomin bulldogs feel no pain! i only noticed it as it was all brown when she yawned one day! so god only knows when she'd done the damage!

she was going in to be spayed in a few weeks so i waited until then, and asked them to have a peek!

her teeth are typical bulldog teeth... the front ones are realy rubbish little pegs... one of them fell out ages ago too! i think the frozen rope she was throwing around in the garden did that...

so i think that considered you should be proud to have him only needing his forst dental at 13 +!!!

He sniffs everything he won't even eat bread unless it has marmite on it and then its just to lick the marmite off, hes a funny fella! My other boy is 17 and still got pearly whites..... am proud of that for a patterdale hehe

Good idea to do the teeth with the spay!! Ewwww the frozen rope and teeth idea has gone right through me, reminds me of putting wet woollen gloves in my mouth when I was little arghhhhhhh. HEHE Scraps has lost his little peg incisors too!!
