I left my house at 8am to walk to the yard in the snow to do my horses. When I eventually got there I found my poor little mare standing in the middle of the field with red snow around her and a nasty gash on her leg.

I rang round all the local vets to find one who was prepared to come out to me. I eventually found one with a 4x4 who was on his day off but very kindly agreed to come out and I only had to wait 2 hours.

Its deep but not too bad but not stitchable due to where it is. So she is now all bandaged up with bute and antibiotics and in a nice deep straw bed.

I can't get a hay bale out to my boys that live out so have just had to lug hay through deep snow to feed them just for them to think that the piles of hay are horse eating monsters.

Not only that but as I live closest (still an hours walk int he snow!) I have ended up agreeing to do most of the other horses on the yard tonight.

I have just got in wet and cold and have an hour to warm up and dry out only to have to go out and do it all again!!!

And to top it all off ITS STILL BLOODY SNOWING!!!!

I have had many texts about other peoples horse as I am very close to the farm. I don't mind helping out, but being asked to see to someone's horse at 11am is taking the pee a bit. Everyone knows I go first thing before OH attempts to get to work. (And some of these are from people with 4x4's!! It's not THAT bad on the roads).

I don't envy you having to walk home in the dark

What a nice vet to come on their day off

, hope mare's not feeling too sorry for herself and makes a good recovery.

I'm kind of hoping OH will be home to pick me up from the yard in his 4x4 before I need to walk home. Although its actually quite nice walking in the dark when its snowing!!! The vet is lovely. And although Elsa thinks her leg has fallen off i'm sure she will be fine.

The road to our yard is awful. Its a little back lane in a village so wouldn't want anyone to attempt it if not 100% necessary!! The trouble with 4x4's in the snow is that if they do get a slide on they weigh a good few tonne and will do far more damage!!

Can you get a sledge to carry the hay bale? We used to do that

Would be good if it was a small one!!! Its a big round one and the farmer is refusing to deliver it

I'm sure his tractor would be fine!!

I've tried 3 times to get my car out - am meant to be working from home but keep trying to sneak off and try and get there but cant. My friend has very kindly agreed to do Luca - but I've been trying since 5am. I'm going to walk later but I also have to work. For some people it may be 'cba' but in my case it really isn't - I'm frustrated, worried and upset about not being able to get there but equally have nearly crashed my car trying to move it.

TBH Halfpass I think it's more a case of 'I cba, I'll text someone and see if they'll do the horse.' Or am I just being a bit cynical???

Maybe on your yard but I know the girls on my yard would get there if they could!!

I tried to get my car out this morning no luck so was about to walk the 3.5 miles and was not happy when my yard manager called and came to pick everyone up in his 4x4 bless him he deserves a big bottle of wine!!

Y/O picking up not only is that kind its also very wise of him many hands makes lighter work more people should try and share the load for those who just cannot get up snow conditions are bad and if you can help you should a few might not thank you however their horses will love you for it
