Exfoliate them. Get a bowl, put sugar in the bowl (or you can use salt) then add lemon juice (not too much though, just so its a bit runny). Then scrub your hands with it.

Rince them and you'll see all of the mud come right off.

I always put moisturiser on after.

I find Fairy liquid good for mucky horse hands, I think it is hard to get off because of the greasyness and washing up liquid is good for grease.

That "professional" hand cleaner from the hardware store. It is a cream detergent with pumice in it, usually comes in a handy pump dispenser, and is specially designed to get off paint, glue, dirt etc. I usually keep some by the barn sink for those times when soap won't cut it.

no, its not a bar, its liquid/gel soap and a bright, almost flourescent red. Not sure what it comes in as its always just sat in a big white tub in the kitchen, dunno if that's its origional packaging.

Hemp cream from Bodyshop... put gloves on overnight...apparently hands like a babies bottom after and clean as a babies bottom... ummm..

.it also gets rid of the cracks at the side of the fingers where ingrained dirt is a bugger to get rid of!

You can get your hands clean and feel very impressed with your goodness at the same time if you collect all the clothes have been needing to be hand washed (ours pile up until I can be arsed to do them) and wash them with a decent washing powder. Magically clean hands and clean clothes as well.

I recommend latex gloves! - they are fab!

I hate gloves too but as I muck out in my lunch hour and that is when I get the grubbiest, I get boxes by the 100 pairs from ebay for under £15 for around 1000!

I cannot go back to work (HR Manager so DO deal with lots of people!!) stinking of poo etc, so much as I love to get my hands dirty, these do the trick.

I take them off when mucked out, and in the evening because not going hardcore poo chores dont tend to get as ingrained with dirt lol!!

Give them a go for the mucking out and grubby parts, and you will find them a godsend!!

They stink too but not as pungent lol!

Once you have got them clean try using nutragena hand cream it works wonders for "horsey" hands and when they are soft the muck doesnt get ingrained . My hubby used to say my hands were more like farmers hands than his! Now they are so clean and girly I even paint my nails!

I second Neutrogena hand cream - I use a nailbrush and soap to scrub off most of the dirt and keep applying the handcream - My hands are almost back to my pre-horse days!!

I heard if you trake your nails down a hard bar of soap before going out it helps to stop them getting ingrained dirt underneath. I find it realy hard to get the skin around my nails clean after tack cleaning. In fact I just give up trying to keep may hands looking nice.
