Gruesome day in A&E and what to do with the cob?

Sorry Paulag, they made me do it ;)

Ouch, Cambrica, hope the thumbnail stays put. That sicky sweaty feeling is horrid!

RebelRebel, the kitchen's only clean because my dear friend (who also transported the toenail) has been helping me out while I've been ill. She definitely deserves some kind of medal :)

Ouchies, I did the same to my big toe nail, although I must admit I did mine when I fell up some stairs whilst very drunk. Never felt a thing untill the next morning when I realized my toe was stuck to the sheets with dried blood, and as for the L word I recently posted in soapbox for one of the first times about it. I was diagnosed with it last week and I am currently on day 13 with it, sickness as stopped but the dizzyness as been non stop since. i feel your pain of having the two both together :(

Oh Snoopster, you have my sympathy!! For the first week of my bout of the L-word I barely knew who I was and clumped around like a dazed clown, bouncing off walls. Even my GP helpfully recommended putting a bucket by the bed as I'd never find my way to the loo. And he wasn't wrong! And the dizziness is not just normal dizziness is it? It's a like a spaced-out displacement; really weird. I wish you a speedy recovery; as others have said, I'm coming round to the idea that rest really is key.

I had exactly the same injury, my lovely (not) Welsh D x TB nutter decided to try to take my toe off after I'd plaited him up for a show. I saw the blood soak into my trainer but just got on with it as I had travelled halfway across the country to stay at his breeders before going to this show. I then hobbled about, loaded him up and went to the show. I didn't dare take my soak off as it was stuck to my foot (it was black so I didn't realise about just how much blood there was). I drove to the show, hauled on my no zip long boots, ran him up inhand for the first class and was berrated for not running fast enough! Which I couldn't as I was in agony, anyway, took him in the ridden class then went back to the breeders. I then had to attempt to remove the sock. I put the shower it and as I peeled the sock back which was pouring blood from where it had dried into it earlier I realised my big toe nail was going with it! So I ended up at the JR, they were horrified and I ended up with the old toe nail being sown back on! Long story short, do not try to put on a shoe on too early. I was in a flip flop for 6 weeks, eventually that toe nail will fall off and it will be gross. I got someone to ride my horse for me until I was able to get a riding boot on again.

Thanks for your replies everyone, much appreciated :). I'm glad the turning away idea isn't too harebrained. I was thinking a bit more, I could put the money saved on shavings/shoes etc towards prof. help restarting her in spring. That's a relief, and a big weight of my mind.

Thanks too for the toe-pain sympathy!! I'm a walking (well, hobbling) disaster. I think I should turn myself away for the winter too.

I probably shouldn't but a combination of solpadeine and sauvignon is taking the edge off ;)

The thing is that you sound as though you understand your girl, whereas you could be unlucky with a loaner.I heartily approve of the medication regime. Good luck!

You poor thing! Why is it when they tell you it doesnt hurt it DOES. Your the one that can feel it. I would go with turning your cob away for winter. Start fresh with help next year, but try not to dammage yourself anymore!
