Grumpy BE entry secretaries

Am I just sensitive or are some entries secretaries out to upset people, I've just received a very blunt email from one after an extremely polite query from me

After all entries aren't cheap - surely basic manners should be applied, I know these jobs are voluntary but presumably noone makes them volunteer in the first place

Out of interest what did you ask and what did she say?

I've had some blunt one-liners in response to requests, but never rude and I just put it down to the fact that they must all be so manically busy trying to organise entries for about 10 different events all at the same time!
 
The professional event secretaries do get paid - £1 or £2 per entry so not a lot. Tey also work SO SO hard that the odd short reponse has to be forgiven. Having seen how many emails they get each day all from us being terribly polite saying please can we have late times/earlytimes, swap class etc you can really understand why it sometimes gets a short response. I'm good friends with 3 of them and have sat there when they've turned on their email at lunchtime one day and had literally 50 emails come through all from us wanting something.

Yes they choose the job but they are only human!
 
Having just finished a stint as Entry Secretary, can I comment
a) Blunt doesn't necessarily mean rude. With so many queries to answer, keeping a message to the minimum and very clear is usually best.
b) Entry Secretary is not a paid position. However the BE Scorer does get paid £1 per entry.

I do hope the Entry Secretary was able to help you or sort out your query.
 
The email was horrid, entries closed earlier than stated on entry form so I asked if son could be put on a wait list. I was told they didn't close early and if I read the rules they could close if full on ballot date. Due to cancellations Jack hasn't done one event yet, we got balloted from MK (3) and I was just trying to get him another run. We have Burnham Beeches next weekend and they have been so helpful and polite (had to check if we had stabling), not going to name and shame but the email was rude and condescending. My OH works for a charity (for nothing) and gets calls and texts on his mobile late at night and at weekends and is always polite and helpful.
 
Ive found Tissie really helpful. I think tbh I would be grumpy on occasions with the amount of work involved around a full time job!!

Yes, they should be welcoming and helpful, if you don't ask then you don't know. I work for a leading cruise line and we always get people apoligising for asking lots of questions but we encourage it, it is not good to assume things is it!!
