Got to yard this afternoon to find that Murphy had 'attacked' another horse. Apparently he completly cornered this horse a beat 10 tonnes out of him. From what I can see said horse has some superficial graves to his back legs and doesn;t seem lame.
We have 2 fences between mares and gelding 1 post and rail and 1 electric, the electric one had come down so it seems all the horses were stuffing themselves with grass and trying to get to the mares.
Murphy is not normally like this and its really surprised me. Just recently he seems to have been pushed out by the group and does not want to graze with them.
He is on field rest at the moment due to being lame.
We have had him at this yard for 2 years and have never had a problem. The other horse has been here since xmas and has been fine up till now. Owner of other horse is saying she may leave. I don't want this to happen obviously as we do get on. Do you think this may be just a one off or will it continue?
I hate the atmosphere things like this cause coz people always seem to take sides!!

Is Murphy the boss? If so there may have been a challenge made and he did the natural thing.

As it hasnt happened before I would keep an eye on things for the moment. I would think there is a bit of a boy thing going on!

The only thing I would do is remove his shoes so he cant do as much damage. And maybe put boots on both horses. But usually I find unless the other horse is seriously challenging the dominance of another they seem to sort it out quickly and hopefully there wont be any more punchups.

Sorry, cant help much more than that!

Hes probably bored too as hes not working.

Murphy used to be boss but since his injury he has slowly been ousted by the herd.
I can't take shoes off as he has to be shod in wedges heels due to flat feet
