Apologies this is quite long but need some advice about my mare.

About 3 months ago we moved yards, she has 24/7 turnout (apart from a couple weeks during the heavy rain when she had to be in overnight), on moving she was a little stressy around the yard but nothing too bad.

She was put in a field with 2 other mares, 1 is in during the day, the other was out 24/7 usually. A couple weeks ago the mare who was constantly out with her left, so she is now in a paddock on her own (horses right next door in other paddocks though)

When this mare left T got extremely agitated when coming up onto the yard, so much so she would visibly tremble and not stand still at all, constantly paw at the ground (shes done this the 2 years I've known her when she is bored, but not to this extent)

I called the vet out after a week cus she wasn't improving at all, and she's been put on regumate in case its linked to hormones. Her behaviour has improved regarding the trembling/agitation
So I thought that was everything sorted.

However, the last few days shes been moody in the field, she starts alking towards me but with her ears back, and yesterday she ran off and did a circle around me with her ears flat back. She has also become more nippy.

Finally recently she has started getting girthy when it comes to having the roller and her saddle on (found out on the weekend the saddle doesnt fit, which might explain her biting the air when doing girth up)

Was just wondering if people think this is normal behaviour for a mare in season (shes never really had a season) or if it might be something else? Worried it might be ulcers :/

Thanks for any help, and chocolates for all who read this far :D

Ahh sorry I mis read you already have , i used it on my mare and it did improve but we still scoped and found low grade ulcers and she was put on GG and improved even more.

If there's nothing medically wrong, sorry to share this with you: we were at a yard for a year and both horses behaviour was at times APPALLING
To the point we used to dread the turn out / bring in process - OH's cob would bomb off, needed a bridle and lunge rein to stand any chance of holding him, and mine would rear and leap around all over. Mine started nipping and occasionally biting and was incredibly stressy.

We moved yards a year ago and the change was incredible - both relaxed, happy and easy to handle....and NO biting :o

Rule everything else out first though - you don't want to do a yard change if it doesn't solve the problem. Good luck

It is not normal for a mare to be like that when in season. If she has not been like this before it is more likely that she is upset about something at the new yard such as lack of constant company or it is rain related than that she suffers from particularly difficult seasons. It is really only by a combination of vet checks and finding if there is a missing ingredient at the new yard that you can work this out.

I'm hoping to get her out with another horse but at the moment she has to be on her own :/

I'm hoping I don't have to move, really like it here,
Another thing is she's good as gold as usual once we're walking out of field and walking up to yard, and most of the time on yard.
Her behavior is confusing me a little
