My mare is due her first foal in April and was quite quirky, however being pregnant made her turn into a chilled out loving, laid back animal.
That was until Friday, i went into her stable to brush her and she's having none of it......dont get me wrong, shes not evil but when i brush her stomach/back/hindquarters she pulls faces and grinds her teeth at me. I know its her first foal and the last three months are when baby does most of its growing, but has anyone else reached this point?

Poor girl has noticably started to lose her figure in the past week as well and is clearly not happy that this 'alien' in her belly is making her expand!

Yes, my mare too is grumpy a lot of the time, she is due early June. Now dislikes her under belly and udder being touched where as before she loved scratches there. Must persevere with the udder thing though!!! She is grumpy in the field to and if her field mates get too close they get a nip or at best a vile ugly face and flat ears. She used to be a lot more tolerant!! Hope she doesn't get worse as foalies a long way off yet!!!!

Most of my mares get a little 'tetchy' around their rear end as time gets nearer - it is quite normal - and you get to find what you can do to whom.

I do insist , in a gentle manner that they get at least a small groom over their belly, but ugly faces - yes.

My mare is very grumpy, bargey and just a general grump, she's always been top horse but her behaviour has been dreadful in the last 6 months (she's due early April)...although she temporarily stops being dreadful when she notices I have carrots (shocker!!!)
