Grumpy Mare?

Hi all,
At the yard where I ride there is a really grumpy mare. All I know about her is that she has recently moved there from an old home, and isn't young, but isn't old (10ish perhaps??). She nips people as they walk past. Could she just be grumpy or could she be bored, scared or in pain?

She could be hormonal, she could be in pain. She may have a history and perhaps was teased or beaten in a stable and has therefore become nippy. She may ne anxious and nervy and it could be fear aggression.

My boy used to bite (seriously nastily) over the stable door or field gate. His angst was pain related -all this behaviour stopped once his pain was managed.
