taking inspiration from LEC's grumpy thread- what about the horse world in general (so not forum related) gets you really mad?

for me its:
1) advice being dispensed when it hasn't been asked for. if i want help i'll for it thanks very much (and i won't be asking you, i'll be asking someone who has a clue)

2) people overhorsing themselves. what is the point of spending £15k on a horse that you can't ride one side of. ditto what is the point of buying an unbacked warmblood when you really have no intention of riding/ training it properly and also lack the basic skills to be able to do this

3) people bragging about their abilities- and then you go and look at their record and its really not that great...

I'm grumpy, tired and ill...its nice to have the chance to vent :D

Different things in different countries! I think anthropomorphism (sp?) gets worse and worse, and rarely does the horse much good. I'm guilty of it myself, but try to keep it in check!

The way many older horses are treated here pisses me off, something will have been given the best of everything, kept warm and toasty etc, and then is chucked out 24/7 no rug and not even looked at, or degrees thereof, and people think it's enjoying its retirement.

I'm sure I can come up with others.

Breeding for colour - it drives me crazy.

Breeding from rubbish.

Equi chavs

All the gear no idea

People completely overhorsed

Rubbish riding instructors

Feeding horses that do not need it. Your horse is a fat cob it will be fine on hay and grass.

Equipment that does not fit properly.

Join the ill club. I have been up all night coughing my guts out and practically hallicunating with the flu, am off work (I love my job!), fed up with daytime tv, too ill to see my horses and wouldnt have the strength to ride anyway.

Rant over on sickness front.

OP, I do agree with you on number 2 of your rant. Ihave had friends who did this and came a right cropper. They sold the horse on at a 50% loss on the proviso that it was a 'bitch'.

Another pet hate is competitive mummies. OK you could say I was one myself, but I NEVER push her outside of her comfort zone and if she has a bad day, well thats it, there is alway another event etc.

Another one on the mummy side - I cant stand mummys who try and teach their children. OK, if you mum is Mary King, or is an experienced rider or instructor, but not a mummy who cant muster the basics and tells her child how to ride in the arena. Apart from the fact that Mini TX would be very vocal over me trying to teach her, I am not knowledgeable enough to do it.

By the way, what is an equichav? Can someone answer that one for me please.

Yard bullies - dont get me started. There are a couple in our area who do the rounds. Got our yard last year, got chucked out by our YO.
